Reviews for Sweet Potatoes in Winston-Salem, NC
Yummy! We came in during peak times, but was able to snag a couple seats at the bar. Sadly I only got one picture, but that is... because I was distracted by the delicious food. We got the okra and fried green tomatoes basket (the picture). I ordered thefried fish and my boyfriend got the chicken. We also had to have the cornbread in a pan! So good! Everything was delicious andthe service was great as well! Thank you for a wonderful dining experience Sam! Great server/bartender. Read more
I highly, insistently recommend Sweet Potatoe Restaurant. Do yourself a favor and stop by to dine-in or take-out. Last night... 8-2-22 we had the opportunity to visit this restaurant for the first time. I truly felt welcomed and appreciated. The staff wasprofessional, understanding, and accommodating. We waited to be seated as the sign read. The host quickly came to seat us inunder a minute. James, the maitre d', promptly assisted with all our needs in a pleasant manner. He was summoned to assist ussince I preferred a different table than initially offered by the host. He promptly seated us in a location better suited for mewith my concerns with COVID-19. Understandably I was asked not to drink from my personal water cup I carried in the restaurantand was quickly provided a carafe of ice water in its stead. We ordered an alcoholic beverage and entree's. My delectable dishwas Salmon Florentine while my partner's delicious fare was Spaghetti with a Drawl. The food was prepared in a reasonable amountof time. Impeccable presentation and flavor! The food arrived and appeared so tantalizing I hesitated only to say grace beforeeating. After that first mouthful I paused to photograph the food to share my experience. Of course, after a few snapshots tocapture the beautiful presentation, I savored my meal. I can only attempt to describe the pop of flavors from the Salmon,Spinach, Sweet Potato Bread and vinaigrette. Of course I had to sample my partner's dish which was equally savory as mines wasflavorful. We left satiated. I ordered my dessert, Sweet Potatoe Pie, to go. I also ordered Miss Ora's Chicken Wings to go aswell. I observed the Chef walking through the restaurant and called her over to express my gratitude for the extraordinaryculinary artistry displayed. Chef Stephanie, we appreciate you and I sincerely thank you, James and the Sweet Potatoe Restaurantfor my pleasingly memorable experience. I will certainly return whenever I visit Winston-Salem, NC. This is definitely one of my favorite Southern restaurants! My must have appetizers are the basket of fried green tomatoes and... okra. I also love the the sweet potato cornbread and this time we tried the mac and cheese. It was so delicious! I ordered theshrimp and grits; the grits were some of the best I've ever had. The restaurant has a cool jazzy vibe that adds to a relaxingdining experience. There is always a wait and they do not take reservations so be prepared to wait, but the food and servicewill make it worth it! Read more
We stopped in Winston Salem for one night, and when I asked the hotel desk employee for recommendations, he fortunately... mentioned this place. They offer amazing southern food. However, they sell a food item that we never tried: sweet potato cornbread offered with an amazing restaurant created/flavored butter. It is served in a smaller sized skillet. This is a must orderitem. It was so good that we ordered one to go before we left. I ordered the fried chicken (which is fried in fatback). This isprobably the most genuine southern fried chicken that I have ever eaten in a restaurant. The chicken was salted just enough tobe flavorful but not overpowering; the crust was thinner and fried perfectly. (Too often, restaurants put too much breading ontheir chicken and/or fry it so that it is too hard). Also, the greens were amazing, and had the right texture aka they weren'tmushy. My wife had the veggie burger which she liked. She also ordered sweet potato fries which I tried, which were great. Theywere cut large enough, and were fried enough so that they were hot and crispy, and had a bright orange color. They weren't oilyor mushy like at other places. Read more
Another nice spot in downtown WS, the food is delicious and has a lot of soul. Love all the dishes with sweet potatoes, and food... tasted amazing. Plus, the sweet tea is off the hook. If you are picky on your tea, then you know what I mean. Read more
