Its Zero star for me because the customer service was horrible. My first time trying the food here because I was told the food... here is delicious, so I ordered my food for pick up and I was told it would be ready in 30 mins, I got there about 45 mins laterand I was the food was not ready and was just getting prepared, I asked why because I was told 30mins, the lady started rantingthat people order food and do not pick it up. I asked how that has anything to do with me, my food was only $20 and why was Igetting the heat for what other people do? She said when she told me 30mins I should have come 15mins early. She was rude andwhat she said was ridiculous, or at least she should have given me a heads up on the phone about their ridiculous policy. Evenon the phone she did not even let me finish my order and just hang up. I honestly think it?s not worth the trouble or food toput up with someone like that when all I just needed is a takeout. Please do better next time, Winnipeg is a diverse communityand just because someone doesn?t sound like you should not mean you should treat them with disrespect. Read more

Finally tried Joloff rice for the first time! Akin's did not disappoint. It was delicious! The meat had a small serving, not... sure if that's how it really is served. Staff are okay. A welcoming smile would be appreciated but they were still courteous. The place is clean, bright and cool in the summer. Read more

I?m only giving a two stars because the food is good. The owner is nice but her daughter is RUDDDE and her character is... DISGUSTING. In my opinion she should be working at the back and not the front where she talks to people. She should fix herattitude and learn good customer service. She makes a lot of people I know uncomfortable with her behaviour. Read more

My partner and I went for dinner. We grew up eating this type of cuisine so we were familiar with the menu items. I was looking... forward to eating akara, the first item on the menu. But, it was not available and I was told it was going to be removed fromthe menu. They were also out of beef meat pie. I tried the chicken meat pie instead, it was...okay. You could tell it wasreheated in a microwave, the pastry was no longer flaky, it had very little chicken in it, which had an uninteresting seasoningto it. The turn around however, was with our main dish, jollof rice with plantain and beef. Great serving size, served hot, andthe flavors were delicious, similar to what we expected. I prefer plantain to be a bit more ripe before they're fried, but itwas still good. The beef was flavourful and tender, with a delicious sauce. There was a hint of spicy, which was fine for me. Mypartner prefers food much spicer but he still enjoyed his meal. I was thrilled that they have the original Fanta orange here(not the North American version thank goodness!). The restaurant looked clean, the server was pleasant and the food was servedin a timely manner. We'll be back for sure! Read more

Akin's is great, it's exactly the African restaurant I've been looking for. The portions are huge and filling, and the food is... actually delicious. I had the asun and the jollof and it was almost too much food. Definitely one to go when you're hungry.Although having said that ,I didn't like the asun as much as I thought I would. I'm going to try the suya next time. It's notvery big in there so you might struggle if you have a huge group, but if you can fit them in you won't be disappointed. Read more
