Tonight we went to eat at roko to celebrate our 2 year wedding anniversary. Our waitress Kaylee was superb. She was funny,... sweet, and caring. She even had the kitchen write ?happy anniversary? on our dessert. Outstanding service and the craziest part,was she shared with us at the end of our dinner that tonight was her first shift on her own. Outstanding job roko! My fiancé and I went here as a vacation date night because they have linguine and clam sauce as well as calamari with marinara,... and we're so glad we picked Roko! We tried to get a table at peak dinner hour without a reservation and they didn't haveanything until after 8:00, so we made a reservation for the following evening at 6:30. We can see why you need to call inadvance to eat here- the food was really spectacular! Also our waitress from Brooklyn was awesome! Being that we're fromConnecticut, it was cool to talk with someone from up close to home about how lovely North Carolina is. My fiancé even saidthat her linguine and clams might have been the best she's ever had, and she's gotten that dish with fresh clams in CT, Floridaas well as Maine so I'd say that's high praise! My husband and I enjoyed our experience at Roko tonight! We went in around 830pm without a reservation, and we were seated... outside within 10 minutes. The staff was incredibly pleasant and attentive to us as guests. The food and drinks were wonderful!We have decided this is our new favorite date-night spot and will definitely be back! Read more
First and foremost- I have never felt compelled to write a negative review on a restaurant before. As someone who has worked as... a waiter, busboy, and dishwasher I understand the hassle of working in a restaurant. However, after experiencing tonight'sservice it had to be noted. After visiting this restaurant numerous times, we took my mother out to dinner for her birthday. Allfour meals were delivered. The most expensive was the Filet Mignon (The most expensive on the menu). It was ordered as "rare".The steak was thoroughly overcooked to where it was more than gray all the way through. I assumed a new cook was in the kitchen;and without asking for it-kindly accepted a new one to be cooked. The cooks agreed it was well over medium-well. We were told itwould be 5 minutes. As a chef myself, I realize a flash-cooked steak should take no less time. Everyone was already done withtheir meal; but I had no issue, as I understand the dynamics in a kitchen. 25 minutes later the steak was brought out in a to-gocontainer. I would never expect something to be comped at a restaurant (which it was not), but it was appalling to saynonetheless. I will admit that Rocco is my new favorite restaurant in Wilmington. I went there for my 50th birthday dinner with my Wife and... Mother as well as my Mother and Father in Laws who are regulars. The food and service is amazing! One of the best waiters I haveever had in recent memory is Daniel. He was funny, made great suggestions and was prompt and courteous in his service. Iordered the Scallops Scampi which are Scallops with Asparagus risotto. The scallops were PERFECTLY cooked and seared which is noeasy feat. The Risotto was creamy, rich and had the perfect consistency. The French onion soup was very flavorful and tastedlike it was a rich homemade beef stock. It was a little on the salty side however, it was still amazing. My wife ordered Shrinpala Roko, a dish that included shrimp covered with prosciutto and cheese. Everything was fresh and flavorful. For desert Iordered Crème Brulee. It was made perfectly as the top caramelized crust was paper thin and crisp. The custard was perfect inits consistency and was made with real vanilla beans. Delicious food every time I go there! I try to order something different every time. The meals are big and I always end up... taking some home. Their homemade desserts are the best though. The tiramisu is my favorite! The place is small and if you haveto wait, please do because it will be worth it. Read more
