Man, I love this place! Maybe part nostalgia but all good food. I went back to Wilmington for the first time in a long time.... And it was as good as I remembered in college. Cheesy cheesesteak, good fries, as simple as that. Some things don?t need to beimproved and this is one of them. To be honest, I'm totally biased in favor of this place as my dad was their OG cook & trainer for 20+ years. I make a point of... coming here every time I come back to Wilmington. Food is always good & the staff is usually friendly. Read more
Delicious. There was so much food and the atmosphere was comfortable and cozy. Nothing like a good mom and pop Deli.
Although these are still favs and very well cooked why haggle about ranch? Why not one full cup with the order and buy an extra... ranch that?s a full cup? I have 3 half full cups and I paid for one of them ???? Should we be saving plastic too? Read more
Saw this place on a TikTok and went on a whim. As someone originally from Philly living in Myrtle Beach, j Michaels was such a... treat. My family and I took a daycation to Wilmington and had j Michaels in mind due to the fact that they import their meat androlls from Philly. They did NOT disappoint. Great prices, great portion sizes, AUTHENTIC taste, and a few different spins on acheesesteak. I?ve been waiting to try this place for years and it didn?t disappoint. We were immediately greeted when we arrived and seated.... Our drinks were refreshing and constantly refilled, it was a lunch hour rush so I expected a wait but once we ordered we had ourfood within 10 minutes. Everything was hot and fresh. The fries were delicious! Perfectly salted. I tried two of the John?sIslands! It?s a recipes my brother had me try and man it was dynamite! I?ve tried to recreate it, without success! It?s anunusual combination of peanut butter, Mayo and onions to top off your dog, and absolutely delicious in every way. Each bite ispacked full of flavor. Their sweet tea brought back memories of my childhood when that?s all we had to drink! It wasn?t toosweet and had a good tea flavor. If you are interested in trying a different foods that are dynamite out of this world you haveto stop into Grab a Johns island hot dog! We will definitely be back to visit whenever we are in the area! Definitely make sureyou try the pickle wedges and ranch! Mmmm they are absolutely delicious! This place is a classic Wilmington restaurant. Serving the favorites: Philly Cheesesteak, Hot and cold Hoagies, Dogs, Fries,... etc? All are great and deserve your affection! Stop in today, you won?t regret it. Service during Covid has been a littleslower, due to staff shortages, but I?ve always found them prompt and attentive. We love to eat at J. Michael?s Philly Deli! The food is delicious and the staff is friendly! However, with that being said,... sadly after our last few visits, we walked away each time wishing it had been better. Some of my complaints are they havechanged their bread for the Philly cheese steak and it is NOT a good change. Also the kitchen staff seem to lack consistency inpreparing the food. Sometimes the sandwiches are full and covered in cheese or like on our most recent visit the bun appeared tobe half sliced open and half ripped open and barely filled. My cheese fries were served with a cup of cold cheese to dip thefries in rather than being covered in warm melted cheese as is their normal way of serving them. I had to request warm cheese topour over the fries. Our order of fried mushrooms were served warm at best. Another issue is the check out area is alwayscramped and congested with people waiting on orders or waiting to pay. It can be difficult to get through when they are busy.The menu can be quite pricey for a family. Overall a good restaurant that in my opinion just needs a bit of improvement.
