EDIT: Owner says they do not force patrons to order via their phones. It seems this was a server who didn't care and didn't... follow company protocol. The whole dining experience has gone downhill. I have come here several times. Now, you are FORCED toorder on your phone, even with issues ordering. It’s very disagreeable. Then, getting a server to help you is hard. Every timethey rushed dropped a dish, I would try to ask the server what it was and she was annoyed to even answer that. I don’t eatshrimp, so half our items had shrimp for the rest of the table and it was hard to even get an answer whether it had shrimp ornot. Please update your ordering system to just order with servers. This was ok during the height of covid-19 pandemic but nowit’s just something no one at our table enjoyed. The food is pretty good. Highlights are the fried jalapeño garlic tofu, chicken and ginger dumplings, curry chicken pastry, vegetable rice noodle crepes, and fried lotus dumplings. Wish they had morevegetarian dim sum. We dined in at opening time, 3pm, and got the white-meat, extra-spict General Tso's, chicken fried rice, egg fried rice, and... ginger/chicken dumplings. Truly this was the best general tsos my wife and I have ever had and will certainly be returning. Iwill be honest, it was not the spiciest, but was the crispyest and most delicious!!! Read more

Excellent, legit Chinese food! Love the dim sum, veggies, noodles - almost everything we have ordered has been really good. The... people that run it are very nice. They have everything setup for as little contact as possible. Self-ordering at the table via aQR code, takeout collected from automated boxes, and a host/hostess on an iPad at the front. Read more

Despite a really challenging first experience with Hollywood East Cafe two years ago, I eventually decided to give the... restaurant another shot when one of my friends recommended that we try dim sum and we struggled to find a place with as manypescatarian and vegetarian options as Hollywood East. To my pleasant surprise, the second time around wasn't nearly astraumatizing as the first! My initial impressions of Hollywood East Cafe were fearful that I would repeat my prior experience-- it's still in the basement of a giant shopping mall, which doesn't exactly breed the most confidence in its authenticity, andthe place was completely empty when we arrived (granted, we did come a bit later, at about 1:30 PM on a Saturday, so perhaps itwas just an off hour). They didn't have dim sum carts, and instead we just ordered our dishes off of our phones (or, eventually, when we started ordering more, we just told the server), but the food came out suspiciously fast...within mere minutes of usplacing the orders, as though it had either been reheated in the microwave or kept under a heat lamp the entire time. Despiteall of these initial red flags, the food was surprisingly pretty solid, particularly their steamed dishes! Their shrimp changfen was quite tasty -- the noodles were smooth and thin, and were cooked a near-perfect length of time, and the shrimp insidewas still juicy and springy. Their shrimp crystal dumplings (har gao) were also quite refreshing and had a phenomenal ratio ofshrimp to wrapping. The pescatarian dim sum items weren't quite enough (although they did have a really expansive menu ofseafood options), so I ended up ordering one of their fish entrees for the table. I was indecisive about what to order, so Iasked the server to select the most authentic steamed dish...she recommended the steamed whitefish fillets with mixed vegetableswhich, while tasty, was quite plain and definitely not anywhere close to authentic. Even so, it was still tasty and n Read more
