The Whelk is hands down my favorite restaurant in the area. I cannot say enough good things about the trout dip, the hamburger... with fries is unmatched and they always have great special menu items - the kabocha squash dessert was incredible. Excellentcocktails & perfect ambiance. Continues to be our go to restaurant for special dinners. Read more

I loved The Whelk along The Saugatuck Rivet. The menu was very creative. I started with Deviled Eggs and Fried Oysters. They... were delicious and our waiter said they were voted the #1 appetizer of any restaurant in Connecticut! My husband had for hisappetizer: Octopus with potatoes, olives, paprika, garlic aioli. We both ordered the Halibut, with peas, onions, and lettucegem. Since it was my birthday we ordered an olive cake with cherries, but it was heavy, and made me feel too stuffed. I washoping they had a light mousse or creme brulee, but on the whole, their creative menu and drinks were great. They also kept theplace very clean, and sanitized between new customers they served. Incredible dishes. Fantastic Variations and unique preparations. Here the seafood taste so fresh and tender. Delicious. We had... oysters, shrimp and a whole grilled octopus. Perfect. At weekends you have to reserve the tables two weeks in advance. But thereare some tables with Barockern, indoors and out, can not be reserved. Here you can always get a seat if you wait a bit. Outsidethere is also a bit quieter than inside. Recommended! Read more
Pricey, but very tasty food. Table water is filtered, not just tap. That is always a good sign.
