Fried haddock sandwich and Italian sub was soooo good must_haves

Good food, portions are large, prices are reasonable, atmosphere is casual. Waitress was excellent, communicated, checked in,... friendly. Parking lot is large enough so you can find a spot. I'll be honest when I say that you don't go there for the atmosphere as it's a bit dated and spartan, but if youwant good food at a good value, served by good people, among good people, with a local/townie vibe, this is your place. Wow. I always say if the food is ok and service is awesome I will go back or if the food is good but service sucks I won?t go... back. This is twofer. The food was amazing like always and responsibly priced. Melissa, our server was amazing! Patient with mypain in the as* requests and questions. Just heard about this place. Stopped in for dinner tonight. 4 miles from our camp grounds. I had Prime Rib and it was cooked to... perfection! Nice size too! We visited this long time local favorite with family for a late dinner. While the parking lot was busy, there were still plenty... of places to park. Vel's is separated into a bar and restaurant, with a door to enter each (although you can get from one tothe other on the inside). I would describe the atmosphere like a small cafeteria, not fancy, just practical. The tables aretight and on a busy night with a wait I can only imagine it to be a very noisy place. But being at the gateway to the Cape I canfurther imagine the din of that gathering to be welcoming and fun. As for the food I only have one thing to say; bring yourappetite. The plates are overfull and the food is good. I wouldn't say it was gourmet; the fried clams could have been betterand the salmon was a bit tough. But the portions more than make up for the lack of perfection. If you're heading to the Cape,or back home, Vel's is definitely a great place for lunch or dinner.
