I?m not the kind to typically leave a review, and I usually cringe at how unfair reviews tend to be, but I feel like our... experience tonight warrants a review, but first I want to preface with saying how pleasant the staff and atmosphere was, thisreview is no reflection on them or the building/decor. We were very excited to try a new spot for our weekly date night, andwere quite delighted to hear that on a Friday night in Waco, there was no wait, a big positive. When we arrived, we were greetedby extremely friendly staff who opened the door for us and sat us immediately. Looking over the menu, we took note of the steepprices, but considering the high reviews, we were ok with it. We decided on a Caesar salad and calamari for appetizer, and tosay the least the salad was probably the best part of the meal. The calamari felt slightly under cooked, and the breading wassoggy. For our entrees we chose Beef Wellington and Scallop Scampi, both $29 dishes. Again, we don?t usually spend a lot oneating out but seeing the high reviews we had very high expectations and felt that it would be worth it. Long story short, itwas sadly not worth it in the least. The beef Wellington was ok, but the scallop Scampi was oily, flavorless, and the scallopswere slightly undercooked in my opinion. These are things that wouldn?t bother me usually, but considering the near $30 pricetag, we were very disappointed. After leaving, we both agreed that not only were we disappointed, but we didn?t (and don?t) feelgood at all, in fact we rushed home after having to run an errand to take an activated charcoal. So I say all this not to tryand convince people not to go to 1424, but I do want people to have a fair representation from the less than favorable side.Anyways, the staff and atmosphere were an easy 5/5, but the food unfortunately was 2/5. I was invited to a birthday dinner here for my sister, and the service was horrible. We waited more than 2 and a half hrs for... our food. It had taken an hour and a half just to get the appetizer. The waiters were slow on refills. They made us pay forplates for the cake we brought which didn't make any sense, but for us not to be billed for the plates. They give us to gocontainers to put our cake in. The waiter also brought an extra plate of food out that wasn't ordered by anyone in our party andcharged my sister for it and she made it clear to the manager, the food didn't belong to us; they charged her anyway. It tookthem another hour or more to cash us out. This was a very exhausting night and wasn't a celebrations anymore due to horribleservice. After waiting at least 10 minutes for someone to take our drink order we had choose the house margarita. The person taking the... order offered the change to a better tequila for a small up charge and we agreed. Drinks arrived and then another long wait toorder our food. As we waited a for our food to come out we watched several other tables get their food faster, and most hadarrived after we had. The food was ok, nothing special, some was not very hot for the wait we had. We had asked for the checkand going over the charges, the drinks had almost doubled in price from what the menu stated. After asking the waitress about itthey tried to explain the multiple charges and new price. I went back to the register so she could show the charges. They didremove the additional charge for mixes, but did not change the drink charge. I would make sure if you try this place be sure tolook at receipt for what they charge. Read more
Excellent food and service. Scallops and lamb were cooked perfectly. Great atmosphere, would definitely recommend. Only... complaint is the napkins had a slight odor like they were left damp for too long after washing. Otherwise made for great datenight. Read more
Would not recommend, I ordered the Talapia curry and it was sweet which was gross. Curry is not supposed to be sweet. My spouse... ordered shrimp scampi and it had no flavor. We will not be returning, very disappointed. Read more
I enjoyed a delicious meal at this Mediterranean Bistro. The food was perfect to suit my taste. I absolutely love the setting... and architecture. The staff was the best! Warm, friendly and professional. My waiter even joined me in one of my pictures. Iwill definitely visit again and highly recommend. Read more
We were so pleasantly surprised by the quality of food at 1424 Bistro. The service provided by the college student was... wonderful. (We so enjoy supporting college students willing to work.). The drinks were delicious, we thoroughly enjoyed themargarita. And the food did not disappoint. Cleverly located across the street from a large Catholic Church it was a verypleasant evening in Waco Texas out on the patio. Well done 1424 Bistro! Read more
This is a classic don't judge by the outside scenario. The food and staff are excellent. They have unique cocktails and... appetizers. I highly recommend you book a reservation for dinner here! We have been here twice now and I've had the Wellingtonboth times-its just that good! Save room for the apple pie ala mode. Read more
