Reviews for Commune in Virginia Beach, VA
Cool rustic indoor picnic table type setting but with seats. Like the small comfort interior. The wait staff is super friendly... and patient. Great service. The food is locally sourced and delicious. The grit bowl was not what I expected in size butamazingly surprised at the amount of grits and bacon that was in the bowl. Barely finished it with help from my wife. She gotthe VEdge sandwich which was also tasty with the sweet potato. Coffee tasted strong and flavorful unlike generic diner lightblend bland strength in my opinion. Very enjoyable experience and I encourage people to take the walk from the boardwalk tovisit this place for breakfast. Gotta come back for lunch. Read more
Probably the best coffee in Virginia Beach! I would go as far to say the best breakfast as well. Everything on the menu is... locally sourced and farm fresh. Seating is first come first serve (communal tables). The staff are incredibly friendly and ifyou are having difficulty picking something from their amazing menu, they will have some favorites to suggest. Get there earlybecause it fills up fast. I never stepped inside as it was a pretty morning and we took first available seating. We sat on the patio which is sort of... crowded with tables but allowed for more parties to eat and, not overly crowded (just lots of tables in a small space). Once wewere seated our waitress, Andi, greeted us almost immediately. Smiling and friendly she was very knowledgeable about themenu. Our food came out faster than expected (busy sat morning) and was beautifully plated (see pics). The Original (eggsandwich) was as expected. Tasty, with the sausage being juicy, not dry. The pork hash bowl was very good for the most part. Thepulled pork was great. I didn't notice if they have a pulled pork sandwich/plate, but if so I would highly recommend it. Thepotatoes could have used a bit more time in the skillet, the onions & my scrambled egg were pretty perfect (not overly cooked, nor runny). I wasn't a fan of the "white sauce" which appeared to be a sort of ranch dressing to me, and I really didn't likethe peppers (of the hot variety) just thrown in whole (still had the cap and seeds ????), but those were minor things. Theflavor of the pulled pork made up for it and if we go back, I will likely get the same thing, minus the white sauce. All inall, a delicious meal, friendly service, and cost to be expected of a hip cafe at the beach. Came back a second time and gotthe pulled pork hash without the sauce and some pickled mustard seeds on the side. ???????????? Delicious, and spicy. ???? Read more
A very good spot for a tasty, locally sourced breakfast. We came around 10 AM on a Sunday, didn?t have to wait for a table. The... service was fairly quick. I had a lavender oat milk latte which was very good. We got a plate of veggie fritters for the tableand I got the corn meal waffles with pork sausage. All were great. The waffles weren?t too sweet. I?ll definitely come back ifI?m ever in Virginia Beach again! Read more
Earthy and delicious! Stopped in with a friend. Had heard of Commune so I was glad to finally have the opportunity dine here.... Coffee is good and service is great. I had the potato bowl that came beautifully appointed with small pretty flowers and a shinysunny side up egg. The pickled mustard seeds make this dish. They are bursting with just enough flavor to compliment thepotatoes and cheese and not totally take over. My friend had a sausage sandwich and was not disappointed. Downside was our foodarrived a bit delayed - close to 35 minutes and almost room temp. Acoustics do not lends to decent conversations, hard to hearyour seat mate sitting next to ya. But overall loved it Read more
Excellent service and friendly staff. Everything I've ever had has been delicious here and I love that all of the ingredients... are locally sourced. Spicy pumpkin pie latte, burnt honey latte and bloody Marys are all great. We've had the apple fritters, hot honey fried chicken biscuit, seasonal grit bowl, chicken and waffles. Today I put together my own breakfast from the sideitems, which I appreciate being able to order individually. They have something for everyone, vegetarian or meat eaters, adventurous or simple. Founded by a local farmer! I would give more stars if I could. Please bring Commune to Richmond! Read more
This cute locally owned restaurant in the heart of Virginia Beach's Vibe district is a must! For years, yes years, I've been... wanting to come here but never had the opportunity until I girlfriend asked to do brunch and this place came to mind. The have alot of seating but they get packed fairly quickly. Customer service is great. They are very attentive and nice. We sat at thebar and all the staff members spoke to us. The lattes are to die for!! Then the dishes were also good. I didn't entirely lovemy dish because I'm not a fan of garlic but it was still good. I love that the food are all locally sourced from localfarms. The vibe is really cute and trendy. 10 out of 10 recommend this spot for breakfast, brunch or lunch. Read more
So glad we found this local spot while visiting. We were visiting family nearby and looking for somewhere local to try for... breakfast. This place was it! We walked in and got the last two seats at the barn. Our server was great and explained howpretty much everything is sourced locally which is great. My wife started with the Lavender Burnt Honey Latte and she said itwas one of the best drinks she?s ever had. We then ordered Chicken & Waffles and Biscuits & Gravy. Both were so good and a lotof food. The atmosphere was great and the place was packed the entire time. If you are close by here and looking for a greatexperience, I?d highly recommend! Read more
