Y?all?this little tiny place packs a BIG punch of flavor. The staff were so great, and even brought us sides we didn?t order so... we could try them all. Collards, mac n cheese, loaded potato salad, Corn - yum!! They were all great, but that creamedcorn? Smoked chicken salad, chopped brisket, and ribs?all delicious. 6-8 different sauces - TRY THE DR P AND THE BLACKBERRYJALAPEÑO. Oh, and those sweet potato biscuits?like little cookies. Went here with a bunch of ladies and we were all oooing and awwwing at the food! The staff was so generous and friendly and the... food was ON POINT. The sides are homemade and flavors and textures were so good! They had some of the best potato salad I?d evertasted and the sweet potato biscuits are a MUST try. The collards were yummy, the cream corn?SO good, macaroni salad (notpictured) was amazing, and there was nothing we didn?t like. The sauces were also very yummy and everything was fresh! They deserve this rating. Meat and sides were excellent. Brisket and smoked turkey were juicy and tender. Sweet potato rolls... were an unexpected delight. So glad we stopped here on our trip. We actually bought ice and a cooler just to bring home ourleftovers, they were so great! Service was also kind and attentive. Read more
Had absolutely NOTHING to even remotely complain about at A Taste of Texas, the owner and pit master both made sure to come over... to our table and check on us and our food several times. Everyone was so inviting and genuinely happy in there it just polishedoff our 10/10 experience. We ordered and shared the chopped brisket and smoked turkey platters and I was in BBQ heaven. We weretraveling from Atlanta and this was THE BEST BBQ I've had in many years now. The sides we got (creamed corn and smoked beans)were absolutely to die for and the sweet potato biscuits....say no more! PS definitely try dipping your sweet potato biscuitinto your creamed corn if you get both, I was amazed. Read more
I love this place. The BBQ here is fantastic, and so are the people. I think everyone thinks they are experts at BBQ. I... certainly am not. However, I do understand what this place is going for, and that's letting the meat do the talking. There areno fancy seasonings and things that coat/hide the meat. Yes, they have sauces but that's more of a side note/addition tothings. The smoke flavor is what they are going for and the flavor of the meat jumps out. We had the smoked turkey and pulledchicken and I'm happy. The bacon Mac n cheese was almost overpowering with cheesiness (is that even a bad thing?!) Oh, did Imention the portion size?? It's ridiculous. So there is a big bang for your buck. This place just makes me happy, and you cantell they love what they are doing. See you all again. Well done. Read more
First time going and the service was great. As someone who smokes their own BBQ, chicken and ribs and enjoys flavor, this place... was a nice little spot. The portions were pretty good and you will definitely be full when you leave. The Mac n cheese was alittle too cheesy, and that's saying a lot coming from me bc I LOVE CHEESE. 3 stars bc I personally enjoy more flavor to smokedmeats than just the smoke flavor. Read more
Amazing food! Its a must to visit and revisit! We ordered this for dinner and while we are eating, I would like to review cause... its the best we?ve had by far for barbecue. We ordered chopped brisket with potato salad and fries and pulled pork with collardgreens and mac n cheese. We also got some sweet potato biscuits with the meals ? Very generous servings too! A TASTE OF TEXAS is by far the best barbecue place I've had in Hampton roads as of today. The staff is very friendly and... inviting. It really felt more like I was visiting friends and family. The portions were perfect and flavor was delicious!!! You will not be disappointed. Read more
