We had a lovely high tea at the Venus Sophia Tea Room. The decor is charming and eclectic, which pairs well with the low-key... atmosphere of the establishment. The Signature High Tea was fantastic--it's probably a good idea to come with a big appetitebecause I was not able to finish everything. The sandwiches were delicate and fresh; the scone was perfect (great crumb, not toodry); and the desserts made for a great finish. Everything was excellent, and the staff was kind and welcoming. Appalled by the service I received today. We were seated with my elderly grandmother and offered a drinks menu, we ordered our... drinks and WITHOUT CONSULTING US they brought a full tea at $45 a head over to us. They never asked if we wanted that, andhadn't even bothered checking if we had allergies. As somebody who doesn't eat dairy or eggs I was unable to eat a single thingon the platter that had been forced upon us, and yet the bill still came to over $130... Unacceptable. My partner wasembarrassed and paid our bill, but considering the food wasn't consensual at all the price is astronomically high. We hadintended to order lunch from the menu but weren't even given the option to, and felt forced to accept the platter involuntarily.Looking around the room everybody else had been given the opportunity to order as they pleased and I don't understand why wewere singled out like this. Perhaps because we had a senior with us they figured we wouldn't make a fuss at being blatantlyripped off? The room itself was nice, and I have no complaints about the presentation, but nonetheless expecting people to payfor food that they did not order or want is unethical and appalling. I won't be returning, and I'd urge anybody willing to riska trip to this particular tea room to state their order at the door before seated. Not impressed. Read more

I have been to many tea rooms and Venus Sophia is still one of my favorites! The vegetarian afternoon tea made for the most... unique and delicious tea sandwiches I have ever had. The sweets were delicious, cute decor, and delicious tea. I went home withthe Venus Sophia Chai, a floral chai with rose and lavender. Wish I lived in Victoria so I could come here more! If you aregoing to Victoria for tea, skip The Empress and go to Venus Sophia twice for the same price (or explore one of the other tearooms in the area). Read more

When I was planning on coming to Victoria I read about this place a lot, it's very popular, so I decided to give it a try! I... just love the interior and the beautiful atmosphere! I got the $45 dollar set and I went on a Sunday. It appears as though theres only one server and I was sitting by myself all the... tables around me were empty. I couldn't taste the floral accents from my rooibos tea and provence tea was supposed to a popularchoice. The food is affordable, the server was nice, and the date cake was way too sweet. Hm~ great tea but not so much for the dessert. I ordered tiramisu while my husband ordered lemon cheesecake. They're okay, but... not great. I can easily find a better tiramisu in any place in Singapore (chateraise bakery, poulet restaurant, etc)unfortunately. The place is pretty at least. Serving is a bit slow. Read more
