I?ve stayed in other Victoria hotels, but the James Bay Inn is my go-to when I?m in Victoria. The place has charm and character,... but it?s also just plain cozy. The staff in the hotel (and the pub and restaurant which are both downstairs) are super friendlyand helpful. The location is amazing. Close to everything a tourist might want to visit, but smack in the beautiful James Bayneighborhood, with wonderful local shops, pubs and restaurants, as well as an easy walk to Beacon Hill Park and the shore. ifyou want to go to fisherman?s wharf, the Royal BC Museum or the parliament buildings, you are less than five minutes away byfoot. You get a real key on a brass tag and will hear the horse-drawn carriages clopping past your window. My only wish is thatthere was coffee in each room (rather than in the lobby) but that?s a minor issue. You?ll want to lounge in the lobby or any ofthe sitting areas (or the patio). Read more

We stayed in the cottage, separate from the hotel. We had lots of space, 2 bedrooms and comfortable queen beds. Quiet area,... about 10 minutes to walk to the Legislature. Since there are people on the lower level, the shower in the morning was only warm, but lots of hot water in the evening, so plan your shower/bath accordingly. The staff is super friendly and helpful, they suremade us feel welcome. The price is high but everything in Victoria is. I wasn?t sure how to reply to your response about thehot water. Maybe it needs to be checked then because 3 of us had showers that morning and it never got hot. However the nightbefore it was nice and hot. Read more

Very cute historical hotel. If you're into a kitschy experience with a front desk staff well supplied with corny jokes this is... the place for you. Lovely Emily Carr paintings are plastered everywhere and nice vintage furniture and lamps. We didn't havetowels when we checked in so I called down and the guy at the front desk physically ran them up to us. Super nice guy. Noelevators. Coffee, tea, and lemon water for free in the morning. The floor in our room (315) was pretty slanted but that is tobe expected with a building of this age. There were nice balconies to sit at and enjoy the Victoria neighborhoods. Horses walkby all day clip clopping but stop at 10. It didn't bother me. I'd stay here again Read more

A beautiful hotel on the tourist carriage ride route! We stayed in the apartment style rooms next to the main hotel and loved... it! We also enjoyed being close to Beacon Hill Park, and walking distance to downtown Victoria and Fisherman?s Wharf. We hadbreakfast in their restaurant and it was absolutely delicious! I loved the atmosphere and great service. Wish we had time toeat & drink at the pub, we popped in to see and it looked like a hidden gem. The entrance to the pub is covered in vines andsimply beautiful. Read more

I stayed here with my partner for our anniversary. The location was fantastic, we walked to the restaurant for dinner by the... harbour. The vibe of this place is absolutely adorable, vibrant colours and vintage decor. The bed was so comfortable, andeverything was very clean. The best part of the stay was the kindness and professionalism of the front desk staff named Hedy. His positive attitude and helpfulness made our morning, and his sense of humour made us laugh. Highly recommend! Read more

A charming hotel. The rooms are lovely and the decor is rich in colour and character. Such a pleasure to stay and the staff are... so helpful. Three blocks from the Parliament buildings in a beautiful neighbourhood that looks like you've just stepped backinto the Victorian Era. The James Bay Inn is 110 years old, so you can overlook that there is no elevator, and that the floorscan seem slightly uneven. I hope they never change those things. We went downstairs for breakfast in their great restaurant thathas an Art Deco flair. Very good food at a very reasonable price. Only good things to say all around. Read more
