The tea room was fantastic the first few years it was open. Now it has become much more expensive and the menu even as of last... year was much better. I still go and still enjoy it but I miss the times when it was not touristy and reasonably priced. I'dstill recommend it but mostly now because of the grounds. I must admit I admire the volunteers who help there and the Tuesdaymorning plant sale. Update 2022 - post covid, the menu is now limited, closes end of August and only open 3 days a week soalways check their web site. Food is still excellent. Now called Rudi's Read more

Firstly, one gets accosted by the Costume volunteers as you walk by their little museum, who are overly-zealous. Rudi's tearoom... charges $10.00 for one sausage roll, which is too expensive. It should be around $6.00. They shouldn't try to cheat people likethis in order to make money for Government House. All you get with it is some mustard and ketchup. It's not like the money goestoward paying staff. They're all volunteers, and the chef, is already paid a wage. I haven't found the volunteers that workthere friendly either, whether it's the young people or older ones. They are not friendly, warm or welcoming. Not one smilebetween them. This needs to be improved upon. And please lower the prices to reflect most people's budgets. And for goodnesssake, learn how to smile and welcome people. I watched, while I waited, and it wasn't just me, they weren't warm or welcoming toanyone. That problem has been going on for years. There's always room for improvement, and this needs it big time. I came here with some good friends to celebrate my 22nd birthday and had a truly splendid time! The Tea House has a variety of... Silkroad teas and creates fasinating italian sodas. The overall aesthetic of the cafe was fairly rustic, but the food was decentin quality and portions. The staff and volunteers truly helped to make this an amazing experience with their truly warmhospitality. The costume museum is right next door and a great place to stop by to see some breath taking garments. Last, butnot least, the gardens surrounding the Governor's House offers fresh air and stunning surroundings. The friends definitely madethe experience even better, I would totally come back! This is a wonderful spot to have tea and lunch. The prices are low and the food is actually awesome. This place is run by... volunteers but the service is excellent - even better than some restaurants! Highly recommended for a summertime lunch. Read more

I was a little surprised when we went for tea at Cary news as I was expecting more of a high tea kind of menu. However the food... that was prepared for us was beyond expectations. I was very impressed by the home brewed ice tea. We also had their desert ofthe day and the only issue was it wasn't really for sharing. This is because it was so good I didn't want to share. Thevolunteers we're super friendly and extremely helpful. I will definitely be going back and bringing friends. Read more

What a disappointment- have been going to the tea house for years but this year its all changed- A tiny cup of soup 7count em... spoonfuls of soup for $5.00 (no bowls are no longer available) - Dessert options decimated to carrot cake, chicken sandwich gone, panniny ditto. We could not believe what has happened to our once favorite spot Read more
