I love this spot, I recently tried their curry katsu and it was on point. Pork cutlet is thick and crispy and curry is savory!... Clean bamboo ambience with friendly service. Conveniently Located next to TJ Maxx. It was nice to get some shopping done and eatafterwards. I also enjoy their appetizers like crispy karage and pan seared gyoza. Read more

TLDR; Sorry, but you can make better ramen at home. Would not recommend this place for ramen. Maybe their original location is... better? Chicken Karage: Lacked any sort of crunch or crispiness. There was also no salt added to the karage itself? The saltwas provided with dipping sauce. Tonkatsu ramen: Noodles seem like they're instant, chashu slices are more like thick slabs ofindiscernible gray meat, soft boiled egg is cold in the middle, and broth was not rich at all. I know other toppings generallyvary, but was disappointing to only have green onions and bean sprouts. Curry Ramen: Same remarks as the tonkatsu for the noodleand egg, and equally as unsatisfied with the karage that was in the ramen. Shio Ramen: Same remarks as the tonkatsu with thenoodle, egg, and pork, with the added comment that the broth was too salty. Servers are nice and place is clean, but foodreally leaves something to be desired. Read more

I lived in Japan for three years and since leaving I?ve been trying to find a place that has delicious authentic ramen. I came... here with my wife and we ordered the Katsu Curry, Tako Kara age (fried octopus) and the Tonkotsu ramen. The curry was so good!Real authentic Japanese curry. The fried octopus was delicious and perfectly fried! It reminded me of the fried octopus I usedto get at the sushi go round when I lived in Japan! And the Tonkotsu ramen was flavorful and spot on!! The noodles wereperfectly cooked and the right kind with a perfect bounce! All of it was super authentic! Truly a nostalgic experience. Highlyrecommend this place! I?ve tried lots of places in the Chicago area and none of them compare to this one! Read more

Why 2 stars? For me, 5 (or 1) stars means I am actively encouraging people to patronize (or avoid) a place. 3 stars means that I... can take it or leave it. 4 (or 2) stars means that, if asked, I would tell someone to patronize (or avoid) a place. If asked, Iwould tell someone that Ramen House Shinchan is a place to avoid. Their ramen, which is the whole point of this restaurant, commits a cardinal sin: They toss in a *refrigerated* hard-boiled egg (instead of soft-boiling them fresh to order), so yourbite of egg is cold in the center. The sliced pork is overcooked. While the tonkotsu and miso broths were both nicely made andflavorful, every other element in the bowl (aside from the green onion garnish) was poorly executed. The fried rice is dry, notvery flavorful, and features overcooked bits of pork. The fish cake pieces and slices of tart pickle were nice. The serverswere all polite, efficient, and appropriately attentive. The interior of the restaurant was pleasant. If you have experiencedauthentic Japanese ramen, you will likely leave this restaurant disappointed. Read more

Finally got around to dining in for the first time ever this past wknd and was a pleasant experience. Put it this way, I already... missed the taste as I walked out of there when we were done with dinner. Love what the interior decorators did being I feellike I'm in an authentic ramen house in Japan. Ramen noodles is one of the many things I miss from Japan being I grew up a navybrat while my dad was stationed at Yokosuka Naval Station. Went with the Tonkotsu and my kids went with the Miso. Don't recallthe name of the noodles my wife had but it looked darn good. The noodles are exceptional but the broth is king! Now I won'thave to drive to northern Cook County for some delicious Japanese noodles anymore, Vernon Hills is the place to be now. Squeakyclean/sanitized lil cafe with a fine menu, reasonable prices and a friendly staff. Can't wait to come back! Read more

I was at the opening of their first restaurant in Palatine and they were great. As good as many in Japan. Over time they... reduced the quality (cost) of the food and leveled off. They're still okay and a little better than Tokyo Bowl. I miss theKara age they use to make. More crunch the pieces had more surface area and ginger taste. The Best Condition had more wholegarlic and veggies too. The chicken broth was kind of on the salty side. Got a side order of egg and they were nice. The priceis still pretty close to when they opened so that's a plus. Also most of the people in there with us for lunch appeared to beJapanese so it does say something about its authenticity.
