Pad Thai wasn't great, no spice or much flavor aside from the sugary sauce and couldn't finish it. I ordered tofu but instead... got chicken. Their calamari was lacking in quantity for the price. This isn't the worst place I've been to by far but there areconsiderably better places to go. Read more

First and last time dining at this Thai restaurant. Service very slow; main focus on to go orders which we didn?t know until... after we were seated. Appears owners are working in the kitchen mostly by themselves. Took over half hour before appetizerarrived at table. Very good vegetarian tofu rolls with great peanut sauce. My companion?s course arrived about 30 minutes afterthat and mine didn?t show up for another 30 minutes. He ordered a seafood dish and even though it sounds like a bad joke hefound only four pieces in the entire dish. I ordered chicken pineapple fried rice. It was so bland required a good dowsing ofsoy sauce. Took a risk ordered sticky rice (they were out of mango). It arrived in bowl swimming with coconut milk; taste?so-so. Total cost with tip was too much? $60. Don?t recommend this place. Oh and it was very cold. They did accommodate andlower the air conditioning upon request. Most of their orders appear to be to go. Perhaps the locals know what to order but themeal was definitely not worth the expense. Disappointing. Read more

Geographically Namjai is the closest Thai in town, so I have to ask myself, Self, why don't you go here more often? When they... first opened I was thrilled to have Thai firmly ensconced in the hood and the folks were great, but my initial visits werecrushed by the simplest of things. The satay sauce, that bastion of asian eateries was so sweet that it was more like a candythan a food group. It was so sweet that it seemed like a caramel rather than a sauce. So, even though other options seemedpromising I moved on to other culinary discoveries. Launched into the unknown like Christopher Columbus finding new lands andappropriating them. Well, I've finally run out of new places to try and I thought I'd give Namjai another chance. Right out ofthe gate, like a bull fighter confronting the bull I try the Satay chicken and the sauce, although still sweet is so muchbetter! Not cloying, not diabetic seizure causing, not translucent with sugar... way more balanced, more, shall I say, adult. Igot that and a coconut based curry. I will admit that it was a little sweeter than I'm used to, the cook here definitely has asweet tooth, but also not bad. They get 5 stars for improvement. I'll try a dish with no sweet profile next time and see howthey do. They get high marks for friendliness and atmosphere. It's a sincere place and they seem genuinely happy to see you walkin the door. In general the St John's corridor is a food wasteland with the exception of Don Juans Corner and it's nice to havesomewhere really close where you can feel welcome and well fed. It makes me feel more secure and loved. Read more

This is my second visit to this delictable gem hidden away on St. Johns in Minnehaha. This time we ordered chicken pumpkin curry... (hot) and chicken pad thai (hot). We also ordered sticky rice with peanut sauce. I will, hands-down, say of all the Thairestaurants in Vancouver, I will NEVER order Thai from another restaurant again. The food prices and portions compared to otherones are heavily affordable. The husband and wife that run the place have been SO SWEET. Both times they gave us some freetreats with our meal and are so appreciative and grateful for the business. I asked the owner if the hottest level of spicy waskill you dead hot and he laughed and told me it was American spicy so he included a side of homemade chili paste to increase theheat. I tried it tonight when we got home and the flavor was phenomenal! If you're into Thai food, I HEAVILY encourage tryingthis mom and pop shop and encourage saving our local businesses in the midst of the pandemic. -Side note Pad Thai (pictured) is$5.00 on Mondays. You're welcome ????. Read more
