Ordered: Guava Jerk chicken with plantain (mild) Oxtail Sorrel drink Chicken potato pattie (pastry) Haven't had Jamaican for a... long time despite it being a childhood staple. This place was great. I don't remember sorrel, but it was wonderfully spicy likea chai tea -- each infrequent sip felt novel. Everything was really excellent. The jerk was an awesome low level spicy that wasfull of flavour instead of heat. The plantain was very dry like a bread instead of moist like I'm used to. Definitely lookingforward to ordering again! ---- Ordered again and got the goat curry (mild). It was delicious and not too spicy, but not asamazing as the jerk or oxtail. Read more

This is what I paied almost 20 bucks for. Maybe the most expensive chicken leg I have had in last 20 years. More expensive than... fine dining for sure. Taste was okay. Chicken leg was precooked and soggy. I prefer fresh cooked food. And for 20bucks I thoughtthey at least would regrill the chicken. Nope, directly from the bin into the "plate". Despite the short comings, healthstandard seems to be okay. Read more

Yummmmmmmy! Oh goodness, I?ve been looking for Doubles for some time now and I was not disappointed. These came on a yellow fry... bread topped with chickpeas, like tacos. The only thing I?d change would be to mash the chickpeas a bit. They tended to rolloff the dough. I like them they stay together and be less rollie polie. This is just an option and didn?t effect how lovely theytasted in my mouth. ???? Read more

Word of the day is Doubles! One of the many flavorful dishes available here. Bara does an amazing job of bringing authentic... Caribbean food to Vancouver. I luckily have a few more items to try and I?m very excited for that. I?ve had the Mac and cheese, doubles, guava jerk chicken and chicken curry bowl and all were on point. The staff was very helpful with making suggestionsfor what I should try and knew the ingredients of all dishes to answer any questions I had. Even when there was a line it movedfast and you didn?t feel rushed when it was your turn to order. If you like Caribbean food I highly recommend it. Great to hitup before a movie too! Read more

Been here two times now. Both times needed salt. The spice level is also pretty low and so I'd guess the hottest is closer to a... medium level elsewhere. So overall, good but not great. Come here if you need to mix it up but don't go out of your way. Ididn't give them a review the first time because they messed up my order. I asked for plantains, i got chickpeas in my roti.Second time, I asked for medium spicy, i got mild. So here's the updated review. Still needs salt. Read more

We had been wanting to check this place out for a while, being fans of Caribbean food and all. The chicken roti was pretty good.... Would love to see what they could do with a beef or boneless goat roti. Our boy gobbled down his Mac and cheese as well as somebeans and rice. He also enjoyed the guava BBQ jerk chicken. The doubles disappeared so fast I didn?t even know we had orderedany. The salt fish fried baked sandwich was a hit. I?m biased towards roti and that was my favourite overall. Looking forward tothe sorrel now. If you like this style of food, it?s worth trying out. Would recommend this place. Read more

I finally got a chance to try Barra Caribbean Cuisine at the International Village. The price are reasonable and service was... good. Their Guava Jerk Chicken is insanely delicious. The portions are well prepared in a very generous way. Recommended. Read more

Lots of traditional Caribbean dishes with a creative twist! Their guava-jerk chicken was unreal, loved the flavours and really... well seasoned. Their macaroni pie and potato salad was also amazing. Friendly staff and big diverse menu for a smallerrestaurant offering lots of Caribbean food and beverages, mostly Trini, Bajan and Jamaican. Wish I could give them 6 stars! Bornand raised in Trinidad here, if you?re looking for a taste of the Caribbean in Vancouver, this is the place. Read more
