Probably the best espresso drinks we've had. I wish I would have bought a few bags of the whole beans to bring home. We only had... coffee and pastries, but everything was really, really good. The staff was really nice to us and it was a cozy place to be.Would highly recommend. Read more

We have been coming here for 10+ years as locals of the Sawyer community and have always had amazing quality food. While the... food is amazing beware of absurd payment practices. If you order a sandwich they require that you pay with card but if you orderanything else from the store you can pay with cash. If you tell the staff that you only have cash and still wish to buy asandwich the manager tells you tough luck and to purchase a pre made sandwich even if you have dietary restrictions that preventyou from doing so. What kind of establishment doesn?t accept cash for one part of the purchase but does for the other items? Asthe icing to the cake, the manager very passive aggressively handed the food over with a sneer and said ?you?re very rude, havea great day?. Straight up gave me the creeps with how icky she was. So I?m rude because I wanted to support a local business asan actual local to the community, on a weekday in the off-season in a nearly empty establishment? I?m rude because we havealways paid cash every single time we?ve ever ordered sandwiches there (yes even quite a few times in the past year hon) and themanager tried to argue with me that that?s not true? Even one of the other staff members came up to me and made a remark abouthow ridiculous it all was. Negative 5 stars for the manager. 5+ stars for the food and woman on staff that agreed the managementis nonsensical. After reading all of the other negative reviews, it seems as if a major lack in customer service and commonsense is the new standard in operations at the Whistle Stop. Such a sad thing for a place I grew up going to with such fondmemories. Read more

Excellent little coffee shop and market. Loved the honey bear latte and a breakfast sandwich.

I made a large order, 7 sandwiches at 1pm on a Thursday. It took over an hour for them to be ready. They were also out of... avocado, but instead of refunding the $3 (for 2 sandwiches) they said they'd throw in free chips. When I returned home, the bagwas missing a sandwich ($11.50) and no extra bags of chips ... I wasn't amused. Sandwiches were fine, nothing mind blowing. Icalled, and left a message about getting a refund for the missing sandwich. No response. I emailed. No response. I sent aFacebook message. No response. Not a fan ... Read more

The Whistle Stop is far from what it used to be. The name ?Whistle Stop? gives the idea of a nice quick breakfast or lunch and... this place is now just a frustrating ordeal. They should change the name to ?Derailed?! We?ve been customers for many years andhave seen it completely lose its charm. No more deli, very few baked goods, much less inventory and worst of all they?veinstalled an unnecessary QR system that is totally useless and out of place in a country store. As many reviews stated, I waited40 minutes for an egg bagel! There are 2 kids with a computer and fixings in a makeshift corner behind a curtain supposedlypreparing these orders. So you order and pay coffee or grocery items at a counter but then must order a sandwich online. Thewait is so long you might as well go to a cute cafe to enjoy a sit down breakfast instead. They also have an attitude if youcomplain and tell you to just wait, or get your money back and leave. Do yourself a favor and have a nice meal elsewhere, thisis inefficient, overpriced and any charm it had is long gone. Read more

Went here while staying in the area for the weekend. Wanted to grab breakfast before heading back to Chicago area. Placed... order online at 930am and it said estimated pickup time was 10am. I got there about 5-10 min early in case it was done soonerso it wouldn't be cold. At about 1025am I asked them the status of the order, they said it was next in line. Then 1040am camearound then about 1050am they finally put the order out. So 50 min after the est pickup time and I watched as numerous peoplecame in after I had already been there and they used the in store kiosk to place their orders and some how managed to get theirorders well before I did. Then to top it off I get in the car we go through the order and my sandwich was wrong. I went backin told them it was suppose to have bacon and no onion, they took the sandwich in back a minute later bring it out wrapped. Iget back in the car and once again the sandwich is wrong. They added the bacon, but they added even more onion. I just took theonion off, but the customer service was beyond lacking. Read more

Stopped here on the lookout for coffee and was very pleasantly surprised by the bakery items. The biscuit is perfectly flakey.... And there was a maple scone that was goodness in edible form: just the right amount of sweet, moist and chewy. I never likescones, but this was different. The coffee was tasty, too. I can see how this would be a nice spot to stop for breakfast orlunch in warmer weather. There is also a curated selection of groceries, cheeses, meats, etc. along with small gifts from localartisans. Read more
