Reviews for Cafe Desta in Tucson, AZ
Wow! I was blown away by this excellent place. I had no expectations on the flavors or options, but did know that we should... have the combo for two and select the dishes. Their spicy food is decently hot, but not overly spicy. The spicy chicken wasamazing! Eat with the utensils if you want but I ate with my fingers using the bread as a gripper. Mint tea was great! As wastheir spiced tea. We will be back and can?t recommend it more. Read more
Great food at a decent price. There was only 1 server and the restaurant was full;however, the food came out fast. We ordered... the entree for 2 where you get to pick 5 different vegetarian or meat entrees with injeria for $30. The iced tea was excellentas well. Highly recommend it! Read more

Richly flavorful Ethiopian food, ready in a jiff and at extremely affordable prices! $12 got us helpings of three different... succulent vegan dishes, plus a pile of warm injera. This was a wholesome, nourishing lunch for two. The cabbage/potato/carrotdish was my favorite, with its rich turmeric taste, but it was all excellent! Read more
Stopped randomly by this place to get coffee and did not regret it. One of the best coffee in town! Strong and with significant... flavor. The raspberry cake was so good too! And owner is super nice and friendly. Read more
Sweetest folks working here! We visited on an early Friday night and sat on the patio. It was my first time trying Ethiopian... food! We tried The Works platter and it was huge but definitely enough for 5 people to share. Also, it is best to come withfriends as Ethiopian food is traditionally enjoyed communally, with your right hand instead of silverware (but they will kindlyprovide forks upon request). Don't miss out on the experience though by using a fork! Every plate comes with Injera, which issort of like if you made a pancake and then opened it in half like a book. You get that air bubbly, soft inside- that's what thetexture of Injera is like, and it tastes similar to sourdough bread. Each sample on the platter tasted so different, my favoritewas the yellow chickpea/yellow split-pea and the non-spicy chicken. A lot of the flavors reminded me of authentic Mexican foodso anyone who enjoys Mexican will likely enjoy Ethiopian. At the end, they surprised my friend with a slice of almond cake and alit birthday candle. Not only that, but they brought enough slices for the group. Definitely recommend and definitely worth atry! Oh and the ladies bathroom is covered in huge mirrors which is pretty cool:-) Read more
Ethiopian food. It was awesome. Great service. Ethiopian coffee was delicious. So many choices. Any vegetarian would be happy... here. My favorite item was the green beans, and two choices of lentils are on the menu and were delicious. I dined with mydaughter and she has returned several times since our initial visit! I will be doing the same. Read more
Desta is the one place we would never miss going to whenever we are in Tucson. We always get the Vegan Signature Plate, which is... a sampler of all the vegan items on their menu, served atop traditional injira bread. (Nos that many dishes feature meat). Allthe various dishes are just SO DELICIOUS. The Vegan Signature Plate is enough food for 4 people, so since we are 2, we eitherget it to go and put aside half before we start, OR if we are eating in, we ask for to go boxes right at the start and put halfaside. Do this otherwise once you start diving in, this soon turns into a "dog's breakfast". We also like to get the desertwhich is not on the menu but always sits on the counter. It's an almond cake with raspberries, or something like that. It goeswell with their coffee. Our Vegan Signature Plate plus two slices of the almond cake cost us $52 with tax. Unlike a regularAmerican restaurant, when you pay on their Square terminal there is no suggestion to add a tip! So bring some cash for a tip. They deserve it! The owners are hardworking family members who have built a devoted following. We are from the LA area, but asyet have not found anything in LA's Ethiopia Town that compares. Read more
