If you're looking for the most authentic Mexican restaurant in north Missouri, then El Rey Mexican Kitchen is the place. My wife... and I have eaten at more Mexican restaurants than probably most people so we know a little about authenticity! This is truly afamily operation, and it shows with the care they put into every meal, our server was SO knowledgeable about the menu, shehelped us choose the right meal that captured our first impression perfectly! There are so many good things planned for thefuture of El Rey Mexican Kitchen, from live music, to comedy, and even Plays, but the real attraction will always be the amazingfood and great service! 1st time eating here. The waitress and bartender were great people, refreshing drinks, prompt service and enjoyable relaxing... environment. We tried 3 different salsas. Each of us had our own favorite. Definitely a salsa for each person. :) Thetortilla chips were fresh and warm. Each of us ordered a different meal for variety and each were decent and filling. The menuselection was smaller than we are use to but still tasty. For a small town it's nice to have a place like this to sit down eatand have a drink with great people. Read more

I have nothing good to say. We waited 45 minutes for food and finally gave up and drove to Platte City to eat at El Maguey. ... The restaurant was not busy, but they did have a lot of to-go orders. It appeared that they only had enough employees to focuson the to-go portion, and left the dine-in patrons to fend for themselves. I really wanted to try the food, and will go backagain once they get themselves organized and staffed sufficiently. I cannot comment on the service, because we had no server. The young lady bussing tables was the only one that helped us with drinks and chips. I cannot comment on food because we onlyate chips and salsa. (The salsa was good.) There was a band that played 70's music that was entertaining. To be honest, theband is the only reason I lasted 45 minutes waiting on an order of tacos and a side salad. My daughter actually fell asleep onthe table. They would honestly be miles ahead to just close the dining room if they cannot properly serve the guests. Focusingon to-go orders would at least prevent alienating and agitating dine-in guests, like me. Read more
