Reviews for Old School Diner in Townsend, GA
Our first time visiting this unique restaurant and after getting our food, I was wishing we had stumbled upon it sooner. The... food is amazing, fresh and hot. The stuffed flounder is out of this world. Chef Jerome and his staff are just as amazing as thefood. If you?re in the area I suggest giving them a try. Don?t be discouraged by the look of the building, it?s Old SchoolDiner. Read more

Mom, my sister and I took a ride down to Harris Neck today in McIntosh county. We stopped to have lunch down at the Old School... diner around 11:45 while we were in the area. It's quite a different place. Don't be scared of the location or the look of theoutside. Apparently the chef started the place in his house and has expanded over the years. Eclectic decor is a veryunderrated description (not a bad thing in this case). We were the only ones there, and the chef came out and greeted us asliteral family and was very personable. We were told he mingles with the guests all the time, and he knows most of hiscustomers by name. I asked him what was fresh, and he replied "I'm peeling shrimp right now". I asked where they were from andhe said he picked them up off the boat that morning in Darien (20 miles away). That settled it, we were having shrimp. My momand I got the smaller portion of fried shrimp, and my sister ordered the grilled. They brought out a basket of hush puppieswhile we waited. They were huge and crunchy on the outside and sweet and cake-like inside. They were not greasy at all. Ourlunch portion came with sixteen lightly coated shrimp and cole slaw. My sister ordered a side of sweet potato fries. Thesethings were logs that were lightly battered, super sweet, and pillowy soft. The cinnamon butter for dipping was delicious. Themeals are on the pricier side, but you get what you pay for, and I'd gladly pay $22 for 16 perfectly cooked shrimp, dessertworthy hush puppies, and personal attention. We were told that on Saturday nights the place gets busy, and the chef brings hisparrot out to chill with the guests while he does his thing. I can't wait to see that. On the way home my 90 year old mothersaid she would like to come back, and that is the only endorsement I need. Read more
Ok, so this place looks questionable from the outside, not going to lie, but don't skip out on this hidden treasure! The chef... greeted us when we pulled into the lot with his macaw, and said we were going to be blown away. He wasn't wrong. The service wasso welcoming and enjoyable. Everything was amazing! We talked with others who were dining in and had a great time. Everythingthat everyone ordered looked fantastic and there was nothing negative anyone had to say about their orders. Seriously, you NEEDto eat here. Everybody's family ??? Read more
