Reviews for Edomae Kiyomi in Toronto, ON
Very good food. The tempura batter is to die for and all the seafood was fresh. Tempura chef has funny dad jokes.
We had a good time at edomae kiyomi as a date night. It was a rather quiet Sunday night but we did enjoy the privacy. Didn't... like that the sashimi appetizer was pre-plated on the chefs counter before we arrived. The tempura omakase had a wide varietyand allowed us to try new things. The batter was okay, not as loose and crispy as we had in Japan. Chef was very kind andexplained each item. Green tea was great. Overall a good experience. Read more
Perhaps I came on a bad day, but the service was not up to par for such a high end restaurant. As you may have read from other... reviews, the restaurant is split into two, serving both sushi and tempura omakase during the same time slots. There was only oneserver assisting both sides. Understandably there is a staff shortage due to the pandemic, but I felt that the attitude of theserver was not very welcoming. She was always in a rush and there were instances where she came off as rude. I tried the sushiomakase, and it was alright, was not blown away or impressed by anything. Most nigiri pieces were overpowered by wasabi.Home-made soup tasted very watery. Was disappointed by the ikura. Usually this is paired with another fish, I’ve seen it beingpaired with Kani and Uni in the past, but on this day we just got shredded cucumbers. The chef didn’t really explain eachpiece or answer any questions customers had. He was very focused on making each dish. I don’t think his English is very good, which is fine. However what baffled me was how there was a couple that evidently never had omakase, and they were neverexplained the process. The chef kept looking over at how things were being eaten wrong, but never notified the server to comeover and explain. Other customers had to step in, which I can only imagine took away from their experience. Overall the omakaseexperience was pretty mediocre and underwhelming. I’m glad I got to check Edomae off my list, but I don’t think it was worththe $148 price tag. Read more
We were lucky enough to have been able to snag this reservation. On this occasion the chef served my group of 3 as well as... another couple. There was a good variety of seafood items that were prepared for us, and were shown raw prior to frying. Therewere several types of salt/sauce that we could flavour our food, I liked the mushroom salt the most. Anyway, while I did findthe meal delicious as a whole, the tempura seemed to take away rather than add to the taste of the seafood, so we have insteadrely on the salt/sauce. And eating a meal with a lot of fried foods felt greasier than the usual sushi omakase, not something Iwould want to do frequently. In any case very glad Toronto has a place like this. Read more
Omakase is not that common in Toronto, but most of them focus on sushi. This is where Edomae Kiyomi differentiates. They offer... an omakase meal built around their exquisite tempura dishes! The exterior and interior of the restaurant is understated, and ithelps accentuate the food and its preparation. We had the tempura meals and they were exquisite and outstanding. The two chefswere courteous and informative. The creations were unique and extraordinary. It is an experience well worth your time. Read more
Came for the 2nd time to try the tempura omakase (had the sushi omakase the first time) and was just as impressed as the first... time! Never had tempura omakase before and this was just so good. Watching the chef prepare and make each piece was great - theattention to detail is amazing. In total, there were about 12 pieces (half seafood, half vegetables), with a few pieces ofsashimi to start and a rice dish at the end, and it was definitely enough. Service and ambience were excellent. Overallfantastic meal! Read more
My friends and I came here for one of my girlfriend’s birthdays. We did the Sushi Omakase for $120, the sushi was fresh and... every bite was delicious. One of my friends did the Tempura Omakase and loved it as well. The place is small and very intimateand quiet—as most omakase places are. Read more
I just had my worst Omakase experience in Toronto. Firstly, the course I booked was the tempura omakase. It was only after we... started eating that I realized we received the sushi omakase instead. I asked the waitress why we were served the the wrongcourse and was then told we were accidentally put on the wrong course list. We decided to overlook the mistake and continuedwith the sushi course. However, that was only the beginning of a list of mistakes and horrible service the restaurantmade. During the two hours of the meal, the teacup was only refilled once during the entire meal and remained empty the rest ofthe meal, completely ignored by the waiting staff. After our soup course, the waitress only took away my friend's bowl and leftmy empty bowl on the table until the sixth course after it. A piece of kelp was lying on the table the entire time, the Waitressdid not even attempt to clean any thing during the dinner. Regarding the ingredients, the shellfish were soft and not fresh, and the eel sushi was not properly deboned. ???? After dinner, I waited for the dessert for nearly half an hour. I kindly toldthe waitress that today's dining experience was as not expected, but she responded in a defensive tone with a look of disbeliefon her face that she received a review less than superb, "Oh? What did I do wrong?” The lack of awareness, coupled with anunapologetic attitude rubbed me the wrong way so I made myself clear regarding the quality of service I’ve received. Thewaitress’ tone became hostile, ”ok so what do you want?” I immediately said I didn’t want anything, but wanted to bringto attention the negative experience we received during our meal. She then just left the table with a terrible attitude and zeroapology. When the payment machine was handed to us there was no dinner amount entered in, we had to enter everything in byourself. From the taste to especially the service, by far this was my worst dinner experience in Canada. This is the firs Read more
