Reviews for Bernhardt's in Toronto, ON
My husband and I were visiting from Nashville and Bernhardt’s came highly recommended. They were able to squeeze us in on a... Thursday night and we couldn’t have been more delighted. The atmosphere was vibey, the staff was so friendly, the wine wasamazing, and the food was out of this world. It was one of those audible “wow” after every bite kind of places. I’ve eatenat a lot of amazing restaurants but I can honestly say this is now in my top 5 meals of all time. Already planning another tripback next spring just to eat here. Read more
Overall amazing crafted dishes hidden in this little house in Toronto. The patio and store front area are ideal place to be... seated. We got seated in the back room which wasn’t well ventilated and it got really hot while enjoying our meals. Disheswere amazing but would highly recommend and THEIR DESSERT ice cream a delectable grape soft serve 1. Grape Ice Cream 2. BeefTartare 3. The seasonal fish dish 4. Chicken was yummy but honestly I don’t think it’s worth $55 5. The clams Read more
One of the best dinners I’ve had in 3.5 years of living in Toronto. The food is delicious with decent portion sizes, and the... menu is so inventive. The ambiance is great, staff friendly, and great cocktails too. Highly recommend! Read more
Service is good. Atmosphere is like a French bistro. I heard great things but unfortunately it was very disappointing. Lamb... rack (special) - unseasoned, not cleaned, the potatoes it came with were so dry... Overall a horrible dish. $45? Only came withtwo chops that aren't frenched. Scallop (special) - Waaay too oily. Missing acid. Escargot - Snails were stinky. Fennel wasover braised so it was basically like mush. Burrata - best thing we had the whole night but even so I've had better burratasalads elsewhere. It basically tasted like a plain lemon vinaigrette. The bread that came with it was yummy though. Overall - Iwill not be returning and do not recommend. Read more
Really nice French bistro masquerading as a corner shop that has some of the best roast chicken around. Had to try this place... after learning about it through word of mouth from my pals and from the people at Dreyfus (which is their sister restaurant). Ithink the menu changes quite a bit so most specific recommendations would probably not be valid. That being said, their codcroquettes, Linton pork sausage, and broccoli on toast were all delightful (ranked in order of decreasing deliciousness). I dothink (or hope rather) their roast chicken is a mainstay- it’s a must order. In fact I may go back to eat an entire chicken onmy own. I’m not sure what they do to this bird, but it’s ridiculously tender, juicy, and well seasoned. Comes with a side ofrefreshing slaw, and some excellent jus that you could pretty much drink. The other main highlight was their dessert- homemadesoft serve with candied pistachios and honey, so good and worth saving room for. We sat at the bar which is spacious enough forseveral plates and doesn’t feel too crowded (save for the relative scarcity of coat hooks). Service was very friendly andhighly attentive. The cocktails were delicious- I don’t recall now what we ordered but it was a couple of the house specials-you won’t be disappointed. Next time I think I’d try their wine menu, which looks quite good. Looking forward to coming backhere when their patio opens in the summer. Read more
What a fantastic meal, one of my favourites in the neighbourhood now! First off, the cocktail was a surprise. I cannot recall... the exact ingredients or name, but included lemon, tonic, coffee liqueur, which very subtly comes through — it wasexcellent! For appetizers, we got the Chicken Fried Livers (which comes with mustard and tartar sauce) and the Sweet Pete &Crunchy Mix (a baked sweet potato, topped with pine nuts, chilli crisp, and a tahini and chilli oil dressing). Both dishes werereally flavourful! For mains, we got the Half-Rotisserie Chicken (comes with a large side bowl of fries, coleslaw, a sesamebrioche bun, and pickles) and their special, a Skate Schnitzel with a creamy mushroom sauce. The fish was absolutelyincredible.. I know they rotate their entire menu frequently, but always ask for and consider the special. You really cannot gowrong with any of their menu items, a real hidden gem here! Read more
The food and service were great! The chicken was a tad too salty for my liking but my partner enjoyed it! The menu is small and... simple, with a great wine selection. Kitchy decor, but it’s cute. Read more
EDIT: came back and didn’t leave disappointed. Three quality remains high for both drinks service and food. Incredible... flavours! Definitely one of the best kept places in the city. Trust what they say about this place: it is truly one of thefinest ones in the city, even despite such a lean-looking menu. It’s a symphony of flavours and an homage to the simplicity inthe kitchen and natural ingredients. The cocktails don’t shy away from being a perfect touch to the meal. We tried most of themenu but my personal favourite would be the leek dish. I loved the daily feature which was flounder. Sadly the beef was slightlytoo cold so we sent it back to the kitchen. Loved the service — accommodated our long dinner and even treated us to someextras. Surely a showstopper in Toronto! Read more
