Reviews for Barista & Chef in Toronto, ON
While the strip loin was fairly good, the feta scalloped potatoes that come with it are absolutely heavenly. Especially if you... top it with their gorgonzola cream. The dining experience loses to none, with lovely music and attentive but relaxedstaff. This was my favorite dining experience during my trip to Toronto and my greatest regret of it is not going here earlier. Read more

This place was great! We ordered the Shrimp Linguine and Crespelle - both were very tasty, though for me the Crespelle was... particularly delicious. The rose sauce especially was flavourful and downright decadent. For dessert I got the tiramisu and acappuccino and it was perfect. While I've had better tiramisu, this one was definitely at the top of the list, and thecappuccino was very well pulled with no excessive bitterness and a really nice and soft finish. If you're looking for an Italianplace in the area I highly recommend checking out Barista & Chef. Read more
This is probably my new favorite restaurant in the city. Food was unbelievably delicious. We couldn’t stop yumming until the... plates were empty. Service was excellent!! I’d give it more stars if I could. We got a little late for the brunch menu andthey still made the greatest omelette for us. We also had their eggplant appetizer, which was a outstanding as well as themushroom risotto that has the perfect amount of creaminess, earthy flavor and spices to delight your palate. You can tell thechef has complete control on what’s happening on each dish and nothing it’s randomly thrown in there. Just go, you’re notgonna regret it! Read more
What an incredible experience. We were blown away at how great these dishes were. Excellent service and patio atmosphere, we... felt very well taken care of and enjoyed the vibrancy of St. Claire, but also like we had a private lunch. The bread was verysoft and warm, hummus was smooth and creamy, delicious starter! The eggplant parmesan appetizer was phenomenal, perfectlycooked, creamy tomato sauce drizzled over an eggplant that nearly melts in your mouth. The breadcrumb and minced garlic add anice contrast of crunchy texture to the smoothness. The vegetarian mushroom omellete did not disappoint. Again, wowed by theflavors and perfectly combined mushrooms, grilled peppers, caramelized onions and savory sauce. Side salad was also a wonderfulaccompanied bit of fresh greens. Perfect portion sizes, both filling and satisfying. Again, extremely pleased and highly highlyrecommended! Will definitely come back to check out other entrées and desserts! You will not be disappointed, just go. Read more
Generous portions, everything we ordered was delicious. They served baguette was served with hummus while we waited for our... order, the bread was yummy. The roasted beets were on point, the appetizer plate so humongous, it could be shared by severalpeople. The calamari was crispy yet not too chewy and came with a nice sauce. The beef cheek and tongue was fall-off-the-bonetender. A couple of good vegetarian options as well. A wide variety of mixed drinks rounded out the meal perfectly. We didn’thave reservations, but came before the dinner crowd. The service was fine. Read more
Pros: small quiet place, personal touch with the chef taking orders and helping to bring items to the table. Free bread with... hummus, small outdoor space. Cons: My table was not wiped clean when I sat down, glass of wine was on the pricier side. I took aspot that I am assuming had just become vacant. I ordered the crespelle which was unexpectedly delicious. Small menu options butI prefer that as it allows for more attention to the dishes prepared. It is an ideal place for dinner on your own too as youwill not be rushed. I would go again to try other menu items. Read more
We happened upon this gem while going to another restaurant in the neighbourhood. The other restaurant we planned to visit was... unavailable for dining in, so we opted for this one. We don’t live in the area. It was a pleasant surprise after reading thereviews. I can see that this is an area with many Spanish/Latinos, and the restaurant had the South American flare. We orderedthe mussels as appetizer. It came in a good portion and was fresh and delicious. I decided to get the whole sea bass as my maincourse as I missed having one since I was in Europe last year. It truly gave me the feeling of dining in Europe. The service wasfriendly and the atmosphere was classy and quaint. They have lots of regular customers who knew the owner by name which justshows that this place is popular in the neighbourhood. It’s just a lovely experience. Read more
