Reviews for Choza PDX in Tigard, OR
We went on a Saturday evening for dinner. We were told the wait was 20-30 minutes, which was fine but we ended up only waiting... 10 minutes. The restaurant is very nice! I love the theme! We were given chips and salsa almost immediately and then waters camealmost right after. I did notice on the menu, only the first basket of chips is free. I was a little taken aback by that butonce the chips arrived, it made sense to me. The chips are very fresh. I didn't ask but they taste like they are made there inthe restaurant and they give you a very large basket of chips so if we needed another basket, it made sense to pay theadditional charge, which I think is just a couple of dollars. Now the food, EXCELLENT!! Its very authentic in seasoning andtaste. The portions are big. I had enough to take to work for lunch the next day. I think the pictures speak for themselves. Thecarne asada fries are on the appetizer list of the menu but is portioned like an entree. Our server, Shalea, was great. We hadan excellent experience and it was worth every cent. If you're looking for good, authentic, flavorful Mexican food, put Choza atthe top of your list! Read more
While the food warrants a score of 4 or 5, the service brought my review down substantially. We waited for 10 minutes at the... door without acknowledgment, so we finally seated ourselves at the bar. The only person that ever smiled at us or welcomed uswas the bus boy (Fernando) who quickly brought us chips and a menu and let us know the bartender would take our order. Thebartender then proceeded to ignore us, and when he finally took our order he looks irritated and somewhat bothered. We felt veryunwelcome. After 5-10 minutes he brought my husbands drink after, and then took another 10 minutes to deliver my iced tea. Youwouldn't think that iced tea would take so much longer than a mixed drink. He never brought water. Our food arrived and thebartender never spoke a single word to us throughout the transaction. This all being said, the food was great (I got thefajitas) and I really wanted to give a higher score. To me, the overall experience of eating out needs to be worth it--not justgreat food. I can make great food, so eating out needs to be a nice experience. Do better! Read more
Decent, though overpriced. The tacos were just ok though elevated by the obviously made in-house tortillas...bomb. They were... also pretty sizeable, still not quite enough to justify their nearly $6 per cost. The ceviche was a disappointment. I'm anonion-lover but there were simply too much on there. Both pickled and raw red onion in like a 2:1 onion to fish ratio. Also, thewatermelon radish was sliced too large as though you were supposed to use them as scoopers for the ceviche, but also soaked inan oily chili sauce, making it messy and again overpowered the fish. In hindsight, i should've sent it back but oh well.Margarita was tasty but again about 20% more expensive than I think warranted. $50 lunch for one that left me less thanimpressed ??????? Read more
Skip the appetizer and head straight for the main course. The Choza Swirl is the best of both worlds between a margarita and a... sangria. I?ll be back just for that! Read more
Food is great but the service is slow. We went on opening night of Top Gun and it was packed. They have staffing issues so... getting seated, placing an order, and getting drinks is slow. Getting the food out once cooked is pretty quick and tastes great. They do have a happy hour although they seem reluctant to give out the menus. The street-style quesadilla is great. If you planto see a movie give yourself an hour+ to get your food and pay. Read more
One of the best Mexican restaurants. Recommend the burrito or bowl with beef barbacoa or pork. The cilantro rice was a... surprise hit, the plate presentation was great. Definitely chef run with flavors texture and preparation. You can taste thequality ingredients. Even the chips and salsa are tasty, the salsa was house made, good enough to drink. Plenty of seatingwith flexibility for larger groups. My borderline frugal kicked in when they charged $3 for soda water. $17.50 per person forburritos. Read more
Pretty tasty I have to say. Chips came out warm, which you know that's always a good sign. Salsa had a good roasted flavor.... Although I would like it to be a little spicier, it was enough to satisfy those who like heat but not too much for those whocan't handle it. First basket is complimentary, then it's $1.50. Shrimp enchilada was full of shrimp, I got the regularenchiladas and added shrimp cause I wanted the red sauce. But now I wish I would've tried the Enchilada Veracruz. Next time! Wealso got tacos...Al Pastor was amazing and had pineapple with it. Love when it's served with pineapple. Carne asada and carnitaswere also good. Tacos were a good size and filling. Strawberry Horchata what? That was amazing. Like strawberry milk withcinnamon. Read more
What a bummer. It?s a cute restaurant with great service, but the food was lackluster. We were excited to try it because they... make their own tortillas but the tacos (shrimp, fried fish and carnitas) were bland, the sauce that came on the side wasn?tflavorful, and the al pastor was not close to authentic and was very dry.
