Reviews for Akira Back in The Colony, TX
Jessica and Gabriel were excellent servers and hosts. It seems like this restaurant has found its footing and stride compared to... earlier reviews. My wife and I enjoyed the greatest hits plating (8 courses or so) and she did the wine pairing while I did thesake pairing (very fun to do both).\n\nIf you love Brussels like we do, get the side. Totally worth it. Perfect flavor andtexture all around unlike 95% of places that say they have a great brussel sprout dish.\n\nThey were a bit delayed with ourfirst cocktails, but the restaurant manager took note without us having to say anything and was generous enough to compus.\n\nYou won?t regret giving it a go! Okay...it\'s only been open 4 months so they have some stuff to work on. Food was excellent but seemed out of place. Maybe if... this was design district, uptown or downtown, but The Colony it doesn\'t fit. Food quality does = Price. So this is a difficultreview. Service needs improvement. They constantly wanted to pick up our plates & glasses, making us feel rushed. I made acomment to the manager & it seemed slightly better. But for a 2 person $300 dollar dinner...it will need to step up the servicegame. Read more
We went for our anniversary and had a great time. We did the omakase menu (not cheap), but it was a fun experience working with... our server and the chef to design a meal we would enjoy. The tuna pizza, toro tartar, octopus, scallops, and fish in beurrebland were our favorites. Worth trying for a special night out. Read more

My Girlfriend and I had a date night and stumbled upon this amazing Japanese restaurant. Akira Back is a modern Japanese... restaurant with Korean influence. Chef Akira Back is a Michelin Star chef and his namesake restaurant is an amazing memorable culinary and dining experience. Our Server and the chef created a custom tasting menu that highlighted all of our preferences. We enjoyed 3 beautifully prepared cold dishes that progressively built a flavor profile from a light citrus sashimi dish of theYellowtail Serrano to a more bold and rich flavors of the New Style Carpaccio with whitefish. The cold dishes were amazing butwe were blown away with the following 3 hot courses, from the beautiful presentation and burst of flavors of the GrilledOctopus, to the delicate Miso Black Cod, to the mouth watering and melt in your mouth Grade A5 Wagyu Flambé. Our evening atAkira Back was amazing and well worth it. Our server, food runner, and busser were all professional, classy, and well informed. They have an amazing Japanese themed cocktail menu, as well as an exclusive Sake and Japanese Whiskey collection. We no longerhave to drive to Dallas to experience high end Japanese cuisine with astounding service. Highly recommend everyone to try thisplace! Read more
Akira Back is modern Japanese restaurant by former professional snowboarder and Michelin Star chef, Akira Back. They currently... have over 14 restaurants across the world in the biggest cities and have plans to open up many more. In the Dallas location, they have valet, but you can also park for free in their large private parking lot. The restaurant itself is beautiful andhighly energetic with loud house music playing. We went with a group of 8 of us and were guided to our table by thehostess.\n\nFor drinks, we ordered:\n\nCocktail\n+Samurai In The Garden (Mars Iwai 45 whiskey, Yellow Chartreuse, strawberrypeach shrub, lemon, basil, and cardamom) for $19 - 4/5\n+Fashionably Late (truffle butter-washed nikka coffey grain, shiitakedemerara simple, chocolate bitters, and salt) for $23 - I?m a huge fan of truffle, but I wasn?t feeling it in my cocktail. I wastold I could send it back for a new drink if I didn?t like it, so I ended up getting a normal Old Fashioned afterwards. Thegeneral manager, Shane Martinez, came to the table to inform me they have been experimenting and tweaking this cocktail to getthe perfect ratio of truffle, but it was still too much for my taste even if they are using a very high-quality truffle. He wasnice enough to let me try a new truffle cocktail, as well, that he added a bit of salt to lower the truffle flavor. However, itwas still much for me. I would say try this drink just to see what it?s like, but I personally wouldn?t order it again. -3/5\n\nMocktail\n+Leilo And Chill (lychee, lemon, ginger, and tango berry leilo) - This drink was a bit sweet for me. -3/5\n\nAfter we got our drinks, we ordered some food:\n\nCold Menu\n+Ab Tuna Pizza (umami aioli, micro shiso, and white truffleoil) for $25 - This was by far the best item on the menu. If you?re going to order anything here, make sure you get this one. -5/5\n+Salmon Tiradito (grilled peach, yuzu lemon, and cilantro oil) for $23 - 5/5\n+Yellowtail Serrano (tomato salsa, garlic Read more
The overall design and ambiance of the restaurant is very nice! Very bright, and open, and modern-looking.\n\nThe presentation... of each dish was great. Everything looked so delicious. The servers were all super nice and professional. I thought the actualtaste of the food was just fine though. Not spectacular. I think this restaurant definitely leans more heavy on the presentationof the food.\n\nAlso, a small nit, the chopsticks are kinda low quality and feels rough in the mouth and hands. Read more
My husband and I opted to do their Seasonal tasting menu and boy were we happy we did. This came with 10+ courses of specialty... items not on their normal menu. They said it changes every couple months so you can continue to do this without having the samecourses again. Everything was fantastic! The duck was cooked perfectly. Of course the wagyu was amazing. And the sushi coursewas to die for! We cant wait to go back and try this again soon! Read more
