Never been did not know what to expect. It more like a crackle barrel but not as fancy. Food was ok. This is not a Halls... Chophouse or Carolina Ale house. Service was great food was ok. They have an upstairs for parties or overflow. They have somegluten free entrees. Read more

50”s coffee shop diners atmosphere. Caesar salad with pathetically small for eight dollars. So was the boneless chicken wings... for $16. Also cold with no real flavor. And kind of chewy. We ordered two Caesars one is pathetic a small. When was smallish.very slow service. Cosmopolitan was too tart. Nothing like the atmosphere in downtown Charleston. We thought it would be morecozy and welcoming. Caesar dressing was good. I guess we need to say it to have the soup brought first then the salads andthen the main entrée. Not everything just all together Read more

What a great addition to the Poogan’s lineup of restaurants. This was a spur of the moment trip to check out the Nexton area... and we stumbled upon this gem. Nestled away in the corner, it has a great curb appeal with a beautiful and bright exterior andminimal landscaping that makes it feel warm and welcoming. Once we entered we were greeted by friendly staff and seated quickly. We opted to sit outside as their outdoor seating is covered and we had a lovely breeze our entire stay. Our server did a greatjob of being patient and giving explanations for the menu. My husband had a delicious chicken fried porkchop which was the starof the evening. I’m still in awe of the heavenly crunch this had and the juiciness of the meat. It was perfectly tender and itwas accompanied by plush mashed potatoes and pearled onions which had the most phenomenal pop effect when you chewed on themreleasing mountains of flavor. I decided to try the two piece fried chicken. I must say that Poogan’s Southern Kitchen knowshow to fry food. They can give a masterclass in it. This chicken skin had the textbook crackling sound and so much unctuousflavor when you bit into it that it really was an experience. The coleslaw was a wonderful addition because it added a lighterand more refreshing element to the dish. We even got a wonderful appetizer of bread for the table which had a great crust to itand got us excited for the main course. All of this was washed down with a couple tasty cocktails. We really can’t wait to goback. Read more

This is hard to write because I’d previously had a great experience at the downtown location. Our experience was like visiting... a mediocre diner. On a positive note, the service was friendly and inviting. They were out of fried chicken on a Sunday. Myhusband opted for shrimp and grits which were pretty good overall. I had the burger but it was like a good fast food burger atbest. The sidewinder fries seemed a bit juvenile for the establishment but to each their own. What was most disappointing werethe side dishes. We had hoppin’ Johns which was clearly from a can. The macaroni and cheese was an embarrassment. No realcheese, not a sprinkle of seasoning. Kraft instant mac and cheese would have been better, just remove it from the menu. All ofthe food was luke warm, even the lettuce and pimento cheese bites. Nothing was fresh or authentic. I may consider returning tothe downtown location but the Nexton location was disappointing. Read more

Place was packed for mothers day. We had reservations and were seated when our entire party arrived. We were seated in a booth... that handled 5 and was greated by Sara with a joke and a smile. Chicken is their thing and we all had some variation. The friedchicken was great, large pieces that you don't see anymore that came with fries and slaw. The chicken and waffles were stripsand the waffles were light and fluffy. Their signature drinks were something special; the one pictured was Kettle Vodka andlemonade with smashed blueberries ????, outstanding. All in all a nice place with a great staff. Read more

The food and portions were awesome. We drove by before and were curious glad we stopped in. Wasn't busy when we went on a... Wednesday at lunch. Nice that they offer outdoor seating in an amazing southern porch setting. The interior is an industriallook to it but still rather cozy. The chicken was very juicy and perfectly seasoned as was the fried porkchop and collards.Mashed potatoes with white gravy was perfect! Read more

Poogan’s Kitchen is great. Every time we go I try something new. But the thing that remains constant are the fried green... tomatoes! AWESOME every time. The pimento bacon jam that comes with the tomatoes is crazy good! In a recent visit I had theChicken Fried Pork Chops with whipped Mash potatoes and pearl onions. Pearl Onions….? Yes, these onions are the size of a M&Mand are great with the dish. Our last visit we got the Pretzel Poppers, GET THEM! They come with a pimento cheese fondue andhoney-beer mustard! My wife tried tried the honey-beer mustard and she surprisingly liked it a lot. In the same visit I got the4-piece Fried Chicken, which is half of a chicken and a lot, especially after the pretzel popper appetizer. Looking forward tomy next visit to try something new. Read more

I personally had the fried shrimp and whipped potatoes the shrimp were very good they tasted local, they were smaller, the menu... didn't say say local so I'm not really 100% normally I can tell right off. They were not as tender but they had a great flavor. The whipped potatoes were more like smashed, which is fine they were not silky smooth if that's what you plan as do I when Ihear whipped potatoes, def.smashed as they were lumpy. they needed a huge dollop of butter on top and they would have beenperfect. The biscuits are a dessert in themselves I could eat a whole basket...well not really I had to bring my 1 biscuit homebut it was dessert later. So good, kind of like sweet hush puppies but not fried add some strawberries and cream call it a day!The chicken dinner my daughter enjoyed , she wished she had gotten the larger portion for leftovers. My husband wasdisappointed in his breakfast it was $12or so and he said he gets more for less at waffle house....but personally not sure whyyou order eggs when there are so many other delicious things to choose ;) just sayin... ???? oh and I really want to go back andget a stuffed poogan they are adorable!
