We ordered takeout and we were not impressed. The salsa and queso were decent but the rest was ?blah.? The ?fresh catch? tasted... frozen, the chicken quesadilla wasn?t that great and was salty, and the tacos were not good (especially for $6 each). Wouldn?trecommend getting takeout there. Read more

Mex 1 Coastal Cantina, I cannot say enough about this place. The staff and the food are equally Awesome and Incredible! In... fact we had such an enchanting experience that we came back again the next day, and low and behold, the same great service. ThePineapple Margarita and the Baja Bowls are highly recommended. Flavor and a Great Time. Leave The Restaurants alone on KingStreet, and head over to Sullivans Island for the real Southern experience. We spend about $100-150 on food and drinks and tipvery well, and all of the places we?ve visited on King Street treated us like peasants. Not sure how much you need to spend tobe treated fairly and with respect. Read more

Last week, my family and I visited Charleston for the first time; we asked a college friend for places to eat and Mex 1 was at... the *top* of his list. His recommendation did not disappoint as Mex 1 Coastal Cantina, no lie, served some of the best Mexicanfood I have had in my life! I immediately feel in love with the vibe of the restaurant: local hang-out, with a festivepub/sports bar feel. Our waitress, Jerrica, was relatively new but you would have never know it; she was warm, responsive, andknew the menu inside and out. For cocktails, my wife had the Pineapple Margarita and I ordered the Frozen Margarita ? both wereoutstanding and STRONG. We also had the Triple Dipper appetizer which was as delicious as it was generously-portioned. Fordinner, I had the Baja Bowl with Bangin' Shrimp. Everything about this dish was just amazing. The pico, green onions, lime, andcilantro tasted so incredibly fresh, if I was told that they have a private garden in the back, I would've believed it. Theshrimp was local, lightly breaded, and mouthwatering and the sweet and tangy sauce drizzled on top made for a savory pairing. Not to mention that the brown rice was light, fluffy, and flavorful as well. My wife ordered the Bangin' Shrimp and Baja FishTacos which were just as delectable. Also, shout out to the general manager, Mark, who came to our table and was so passionateand hospitable. With the service, food, drinks, and atmosphere at Mex 1, it's easy to understand why he is in love with theplace! When we return to Charleston, Mex 1 may be our first stop from the airport! Had a great very casual dinner here. Lots of porch seating, with a bar open to the porch and to the indoor seating, which is... also fairly open with large windows. We started with the Triple Dipper - guacamole, great queso, and corn and black bean salsaand all the chips we could eat - and our table of four had two quesadillas (chicken and carne asada, both recommended) and twoBaja bowls (mani and bangin? shrimp, both recommended). The churro donut holes with caramel dipping sauce were the topper. Trythe frozen margarita swirled with sangria. Read more

The street corn queso & guacamole was great. The crispy beef & bangin? shrimp taco were also very good. The margaritas were... great, the pineapple habanero margarita had a little kick. Our server Eilidh was great! Read more

The only down side is the parking, which is hard to find. But that?s not their fault. Definitely worth the walk! The best food... me and my gf had in a long time. The service was great and the food was better. 12/10 would recommend. Read more

My husband and I are big Mexican food fans and we?re excited to try this spot. The vibe here was cool but in my opinion the good... and service was nothing special. My husband and and I both got different tacos and they were alright. We got a kids bowl andthat was mediocre. The service was just alright as well. We had to ask for our chips to come out initially maybe 3 times. Ourserver did package up my sweet tea at the end for me to take on the road which was kind. Overall it was good but didn?t exceedexpectations. Part of the reason we went is because I had read they had a stage for kids to entertain themselves while waitingfor food but it looked like they had since covered the mini stage with more tables for customers. Not too busy on a Saturday night, good atmosphere and not too loud. Great food, can't go wrong with the Baja bowls and the... amazing shrimp they have here. Strong drinks without the strong taste, very nice place. Read more
