Probably the best Chinese I've had on the island. The food came fast. It was super fresh and delicious. I ordered the General... Tso Chicken, Shrimp Fried Rice, Beef Lo Mein and Pork Dumplings. To me their food taste like very old school Chinese NYCtakeout. If you were around in the 70s and 80s you know what I mean. The chicken was crisp on the outside and super tender onthe inside. The sauce was authentic General Tso sauce. Sweet and spicy. The Shrimp Fried Rice was fresh (not stale rice here).Beef Lo Mein the beef was super tender and the lo mein noodles perfectly cooked. Tacks has had my heart since i lived in SI. I remember saving up to get a lunch special of general tso's and pork fried rice and... eating it up faster than you can say scrumlicious! Tacks is still family owned and operated from what i can tell (and they workhard), flying in from the west coast to eat a childhood guilty pleasure of mind did not dissapoint. Been going there as a teenager. The recipe for curry chicken, shrimp, and beef is amazing. Can't find this taste anywhere else.
I have just ordered a beef egg foo young and I've got to say it was a mistake. Instead of crispy, it was mushy, like seriously... mushy. Everything was drenched in soy sauce, and that was the only flavor I could get out of it, including the pork fried rice,which would've been perfect if it wasn't for the overwhelming soy sauce and grease. Many people have been saying that the service has went downhill ever since new owners have taken over. Annie has really been... trying her best to continue Mr.Tacks services despite her language barrier. The price has gone up, but the food remainsdelicious. I had the honor to have the cook make a mix of shrimp and beef in curry sauce for me. It was good and saucy! Read more
I know it changed ownership years ago. But still not like the old tacks . Example. Recently ordered BUTTERFLY SHRIMP WITH BACON... . Disappointed! Shrimp to small and over cooked , could only taste the bacon and egg . (Need to use larger shrimp so you cantaste the shrimp) Also the shrimp toast burnt so bad we had to cut the toast off the shrimp or risk breaking a tooth... Have toreally think about giving them a second chance.... Read more
