What a catastrophe. Went there around 5, sat outside. Apparently, it was happy hour. Awesome. My buddy orders a 1L stein, as do... I. 25 minutes later it comes. No people inside, one table outside. After 2 mouthfuls his stein is different than mine. Weexamine, his stein has a pint glass stuck in it, and it was cracked, we inform the bartender who insists he drinks the rest andoffered another on the house. We order food, the server told us, he was bartending , serving, bussing, and changing the kegs, and apologized for the wait time. The menu is littered with errors, 6 wings 12 bucks, 2 wings 22 bucks. The food came about 75minutes in, 4 apps. We decided for another stein, 18 beers apparently on tap, 12 when we were there, asked for 3 different beer, and all the kegs were empty. Bartender gave us a 20% filled stein, and told us to split it. Finished apps and ordered 2steins, whatever they had left at this point, 35 minutes later a new bartender shows up and immediately gets on her phone as theserver is changing the keg. After 45 minutes we ask the new bartender we'll get whatever is left because happy hour was over, she confirmed we will get happy hour prices. Bill comes, charged us full price, server gets manager who laughs at the errors inthe menu and does absolutely nothing to help the new server who was on his 3rd day of work. This was by far the worst experiencewe have ever had at a restaurant in St. John's. I've never seen so many people their menu to the bar, and have to leave theirtable to order food. Maybe invest some time in this place as O'Reillys and YellowBelly. Needs alot of work. Read more

The nachos and stein was a good deal at $26 and the Yellowbelly Red was smooth. Nachos with pulled pork, sauerkraut and dill... pickles - who knew it would be a winning combination? The red curry mussels were ok. Quite a wait considering the restaurantwasn't super busy but we enjoyed ourselves. Read more

Good service, ridiculously cheap steins, and food was good too! Had the oktoberfest sausage w/ fries and a caesar salad. Sausage... was tasty without condiments and while the caesar salad was a bit pricey, it had real bacon so I'll cut them some slack! Worth avisit Read more

Been here a few times over the summer and had pretty good experiences. (Always on the patio for beers) Tonight I can’t say the... same…. I suggested to friends from out of town that we go to the Frugal Stein’s for a big beer and some supper, we were theonly people seated in the restaurant. Our server and the bartender were so busy arguing with one another, hanging out on thepatio on her cell phone, and feeding one another nacho chips, this made our experience the most awkward restaurant experience ofmy life… we really wished we had just left and gone elsewhere…. I was completely embarrassed that I took friends to thisrestaurant! The staff was completely unprofessional, yelling in the restaurant, and not even able to get our beer orderproper… definitely do NOT recommend this restaurant after tonight’s experience. Read more

Busy Friday night. Got a table easily. Service was good but they didn't clear our empty dishes from the table for quite a while.... They brought food the food out within a decent time. Food was good. We had a delicious juicy moose burger with pickled beets. Itwas delicious. The jiggs muscles were good. We got an order of 2 lbs. Our black forest cheesecake was scrumptious. Read more

Luckily got a table on a busy Friday night with no wait. Service was friendly, quick, and competent. Food was good.

This is run by the same folks behind O'Reilly's nearby. Drinks and food are comparatively much cheaper than nearby pubs, however... they are sneaky with their add-ons and sides. We were asked what side we wanted for our burgers and turns out they weren'tincluded and actually extra. Very misleading given their ask though and be careful with their receipt; we were incorrectlycharged for 2 vs 1 lb of mussels. Read more
