Drove down to Springfield to meet friends here for dinner. I will gladly do that again! Corner 21 is a small location, but it... was packed the entire time we were here. This is as close to authentic Chinese cuisine as you can get here in the midwest. Themeals are big enough to share. So the four of us were able to eat some of each other's orders. I was looking for a good Chinese restaurant while I was in Springfield for a weekend. I decided to give this restaurant a try... due to high Google rating. The restaurant was small. It had simple decor and austere furniture. It was packed with customerswhen we arrived. We did have to wait a little bit for our food. Fortunately, the food presentation was excellent and theportion was plentiful. The food was delicious and tasteful. It had a menu of an authentic Chinese food. The price wasreasonable. I would recommend anyone to come either early or late to avoid crowds during lunch and dinner time due to a limitedseating capacity. Read more
I don't get it. I was really excited to try this place after reading all the rave reviews about authentic Chinese food. Placed a... large order of 4 menu items: eggplant, chicken, enoki mushroom and brisket soup, and egg fried shrimp. The positives were thatthe sauces on the eggplant and chicken were very good. The portions are large. And the egg coating on the shrimp was phenomenal.Downsides: pretty expensive and not worth it in my opinion based on the items I ordered. However, the menu is large, so it isn'trepresentative of all the food items. I am sure some items might be worth it, it just wasn't in my experience. Another downsidewas that the delicious coating on the shrimp was battered over the shrimp shell. So you couldn't just bite into it. You had topick the coating off into a little pile of crunchies and then take the casings off the shrimp. It wasn't just the tail. Theentire shrimp was like that. Then you had to eat a bite of unseasoned shrimp and a spoonful of the crunchy coating. Veryunappetizing. Next, the soup was very disappointing. The meat was rubbery and the soup flavor was unbalanced. The leftover soupstayed in the fridge a few days as no one wanted to eat it. Lastly, the eggplant was super oily, making it soggy by the time wegot it home and then left behind pools of oil when popped in the air fryer to warm back up. Again, pretty unappetizing. I wantedto love this place, but I don't think I will part ways with my dollars again to roll the dice on an inconsistent menu. Read more
THIS is REAL Chinese food. We have liked every dish we have tried so far, and we have tried several. Dinning area is smaller but... we have never had issues seating a group of 4-6. There are pictures with every menu item and the staff are SO SO nice. They donot have Cashew Chicken and THANK GOODNESS too! Springfield has enough cheap, commercialized cashew chicken places. Authentic Chinese Food from what I can tell. I have not tried everything here yet. I am very picky and very used to Americanized... Chinese food so I will tell you this place is not like that. If you are expecting that, it is not. That is definitely not a badthing because it is hard to find an authentic chinese restaurant anywhere here. From what I like to eat, I do like the Sweet andSour Pork and this other soup. I totally forgot the name but it was delicious!! My mother got the spicy fish with chili. If only there were more stars! What an absolutely fabulous time we had eating here! The staff was warm and welcoming. They... helped us decide which items to choose and what great choices the were! We had all of the dishes were so incredible, we hadtrouble picking our favorite. I loved the Szechuan Chicken was probably my fave. This was a fantastic little authentic Chinese restaurant in Springfield. The food tasted amazing, and the portions were pretty... good. The staff was also very nice and quick to wait on us. Each dish doesn't have a ton of variety, so it is best if you gowith someone and split two or three different dishes! Definitely a great experience, and I can't wait to return to try some oftheir other dishes. I did return and was able to try a few more plates, and once again, it was all phenomenal.
