I have a recurring business gig that brings me to Springfield, IL. Maldaner's is by far my favorite part of coming here. A local... tradition that has been here well over a century, and rightly so. Food and service excellent, easily as good as Michelin starredrestaurants I have visited in big cities. My favorites so far: minestrone soup (completely vegetarian), duck confit, smokedtrout plate.-- But that's only because I haven't yet tried the beef wellington (next visit, hopefully). Nice wine list, too. Read more

We've dined here numerous times, and it's always excellent. My wife ordered the heirloom tomato salad, and it was so good I... ordered one as well after my entree: fresh and richly flavorful. She had a mushroom risotto, and I had beef Wellington (mediumrare); both were cooked perfectly. And of course, the Queen of Sheba cake for desert. There's no such thing as too muchchocolate or too rich. We ate outside which was delightful. The server was outstanding. A perfect anniversary dinner. Read more

Excellent service and food, with reasonable prices. The inside was well restored seeing that the restaurant has been there since... the 1880s. We had toured the Lincoln Presidential Museum just before so this was a great culmination of a very interesting 3hour stop in Springfield. Read more

Very nice place and most of the guests were dressed up because they knew they were going someplace special. The staff is... friendly and helpful. Maldaner's is serious about using fresh and locally obtained ingredients for their dishes, so much so thatthe owner himself (I understand) picked the morel mushrooms that went into the Morel Pie. If you like mushrooms and especiallymorels you will understand how absolutely delicious the Morel Pie is! I ordered the Beef Wellington. I had never had BeefWellington before but, let me tell you, it was outstanding! It was so good, so warm and pink and tender, that I gobbled it upbefore I thought to take a picture to show you how beautiful it was! Next time I'm in Springfield, I will definitely lookforward to visiting Maldaner's again! Read more

This restaurant has it all...location, history, delicious food, and refined service. I ordered the warm goat cheese salad and... loved the combination of cheese, beets, and cranberries. For my entree, I had a Chilean sea bass with cherry tomatoes over a bedof arugula and a daikon/turnip puree. The flavors were amazing. Even though I was feeling a bit full, I made room for a seasonalcrisp with peaches and blueberries, which was heavenly. The service was efficient and friendly with a refined air that you seein upscale restaurants. It was a real treat! Read more
