We had a dinner for our softball team and families catered at our hotel after a long day playing at Tyger River Complex. Mr John... and Ms Glenda took care of every detail. Stopped in here while I was in town for the day. The food was wonderful and the owner was also extremely nice. I got a smothered... pork chop with rice & gravy, collards, stuffing, and mac & cheese. I would love to go back and try everything on the menu. Superhighly recommend! Read more

Oh my goodness ???? EVERYTHING is so delicious ???????? the collard greens are REAL & DELICIOUS!! My husband got the livers and... I got the Fried chicken breast. The okra was fried to perfection. If you get the chance to swing through Spartanburg I HIGHLYrecommend giving them a try. If fantastic southern food is what your looking for then J&G is where it's at. It beats Wade's anyday! We were raised in Spartanburg and had excellent soul food restaurants back in the day, like Woodward's, Southside, but they... closed. We wanted to have some flavorful food and saw J & G next to Sellar's Seafood. So we went in. We were greeted by a tallman who thanked us for coming in. He asked if we wanted take out or to eat in. I am guessing he was the owner, Johnny. We wantedto eat there. I ordered fried catfish, macaroni and cheese, fried okra and collards. My brother ordered smothered pork chopswith potato salad, green beans, and cabbage. Both meals came with cornbread. I also ordered chicken livers. The food was alldelicious and very well seasoned. It was just what we were looking for. We had enough to take home and my mom enjoyed the friedfish too. We will be back! Read more

The food was exceptional. The fried chicken was well seasoned and freshly prepared. The pinto beans with the gravy, the yams... taste like grandma yams. We went for the first time to have lunch at J & G Family Restaurant and Catering in Spartanburg. We buy fresh fish and seafood... next door frequently and always saw people happily carrying out food out of this restaurant. The reviews were good so I thoughtwe?d give them a try. Betty took our order, we sat down and our food soon arrived. Chef Johnny Foster, owner and Chef came outto welcome us to his restaurant. He told us how he got his start worked as a dishwasher at the restaurant 30 years ago andworked his way up to became the chef and owner. Nice, welcoming and very impressive gentleman! What also was impressive washis food. I ordered the fried chicken breast, mashed potatoes, Mac n Cheese and green beans. (We wanted to sample as much as wecould). My husband ordered the hamburger steak with sautéed onions, Gravy, corn, fried okra . It was so delicious. The friedchicken was very moist and the skin was so crispy and flavorful. Best fried chicken I ever had. The fried okra was to diefor! The mashed potatoes were so delicious, I don?t usually order gravy but I?m glad I did. I could not get enough of this one. Oh my it was good! The Mac n Cheese was loaded with oooey gooey incredible cheese it should be called Cheese n Mac! My husbandloved his Hamburger Steak with just the right amount of flavorful gravy. Fabulous home style, soul food cooking at its verybest. Chef Johnny knows what to do and he does it right. Everyone who came into the restaurant was so nice and welcoming. Weenjoyed it. We loved meeting Chef Johnny and Betty. We didn?t get the name of the other staff we saw. We didn?t get a chance tomeet Glenda. You become instant family when you dine at J & G Family Restaurant. Wow - where do I start? My wife and I had the pleasure of eating here last night. I can honestly say that without a doubt this... was the most welcomed we have ever felt in any restaurant ever, from the moment we entered we were made to feel likefamily?..and not just by the employees but by the other customers too. Now let?s talk about the food! Simply amazing, I had theribs with potato salad, green beans and banana pudding while my wife had the chopped steak with fried okra, mashed potatoes andbanana pudding. All of the food was outstanding and at a price that makes you do a double take, no way we got all that with acouple of sweet teas for $22 (including tax), why yes we did! Our only regret is that we don?t live in Spartanburg but I canassure you we will be making the trip from Johnson City again! Read more
