Reviews for The Sly Fox Pub in Southern Pines, NC
Our waitress was nice but was by herself. I ordered the fish and chips and it was slimy on the inside between the bread and... fish. My sons mac and cheese had so much oil in I notice when I was putting some on a separate plate, I didn?t have him eat it.It took a long for refills and the check. Read more
Diverted to stop here for a proper British fry up for my Brit husband. Very disappointed. Sat outside for 20 minutes without a... waiter. Order drinks, water and our brunch. Water came without lemons, even though we were asked if we wanted. The menu haschanged from website, no vegetarian options other than salad or kids pancakes. Husband?s Full English Breakfast came, it had nomushrooms and 1/2 piece of toast. They actually sent 1/2 a piece of bread. Seems busy, I imagine it?s the pub and not the food, but we wouldn?t stop again. Service was slow and food wasn?t worth it. Read more
Had drinks and a snack. Sat at the bar. Cool space. Bartender was kind. We ordered the bacon wrapped dates with goat cheese and... my goodness were they delicious! The menu has so many unique items, we cannot wait to go back to have dinner. Read more
Loved the setting! The fish was delicious, but I didn't care for the fries. They mention them being twice cooked, but they were... stale in taste and texture to me. I can't wait to go back and try more of the other entrées. Read more
Food was awesome service was horrible. The server acted like it was difficult for him to provide any service. We would have to... waive him down to get answers about menu. He had no ideas about the daily special. 3/17... hum guess.. after asking a questionhow response was a grunt or yeah and walked away. Atmosphere is great. Will be back but asking for a different server Read more
So this place was so good the first night my wife and I came back two days later. If I had stopped at the first night this would... have been a glowing 4-5 star review. Unfortunately, our second night, Friday night was not as good or pleasant as the firstearlier in the week. Our first visit was simply outstanding with impeccable service and delicious food. We had the sausagerolls, fish and chips, brussel sprouts and apple strudel. Between the exceptional service and outstanding food this was acomplete win. Upon our second night our server was slightly confrontational. My wife hadn't touched her appetizer as she wasworking on her phone to resolve an issue with our next destination the server started to chastise her for not eating the soup.As the evening progressed his level of service and attitude declined. This greatly impacted our expectations for the evening. She once again got the Fish & chips. I got the "No named beef dish", brussel sprouts and Gouda Mac and cheese. The Brusselssprouts were almost as good as the first night. The quantity and serving dish were smaller. The Gouda Mac and cheese wasoutstanding. The "No name beef dish" was quite frankly unappealing or appetizing. The beef was tough and the gravy with it hadan off putting taste that just didn't ring true to any English gravy I've had. Consisting of Dijon mustard and horseradish itsounds appealing on the menu. The presentation was fine. It looked kinda like upside down Shepard's pie. The taste though wasvery off-putting and I can't recommend it at all. We once again ordered the Apple Strudel. The confrontational demeanor of theserver with my wife and the horrible entree kinda set the mood and my opinion back on the Sly Fox. So long story short go on aslower week night when the service and food quality are at an all time high. Avoid the "No name beef dish" at all costs. Thefish and chips are great as is the Gouda Mac and Cheese. Can't go wrong with these. Read more
Went for early dinner, so the place was not busy. Was seated immediately and greated by our servers. One was in training. The... both were very pleasant to have wait on us. Started with a drink, I had Jeter draft, very smooth and light. Wife had a PerfectPear martini, said it had not pear taste. Tasted like lemon aid with cinnamon in it. Started with the sausage rolls, not muchbigger than a pig in a blanket and you only got 2. The HD sauce was interesting in a good way. For our main courses we hadChicken pot pie and Beef Cheeks with Gounchi. The pot pie was good sized and loaded with chicken and veggies. Not all sauce likemost places. Very flavorful. The Beef Cheeks (first time trying beef cheeks), some of the most tender beef i have ever ate. TheGounchi were good but would have been nice if there was more of them. The gravey it was in was very beefy and full of flavor.Would have been nice if it was served with rolls. To finish the meal we had dark chocolate creme briulee, it was very light andairy great flavor. Price was $$. The atmosphere was very open and comfortable. The decor was very interesting. Worth going againas it a interesting menu. Read more
