We wanted Asian food walking distance in town. It was a toss up between Pho or ramen. We chose the latter. You order at the... front door and sit anywhere outside. No indoor seating. It was a very windy day but they have heaters. We ordered crispy tofu($8), gyoza ($10), and a bowl of shoyu ramen ($18) to share. I don?t think I?ve ever paid that much for a bowl of soup! Theramen noodles and broth was good. I picked pork belly and it was tender and fattie. Gyoza was average and the crispy tofu wasmeh. That item could be skipped. It was lightly crisp but no seasoning. The same dipping sauce was given to both, a soyvinaigrette. If they changed their sauce to something sweeter, I think it would bring out more flavors. 5 stars for ramen, 2for crispy tofu, 3 for gyoza. Read more
I've been following ramen katori for a while on Facebook and finally got up to Solvang to experience it. It was worth the drive... and it was an incredible experience. First of all it's quite small and has only outside seating. Besides the udon they havedaily specials which I highly recommend. This place is run by two husband and wife chefs and the love in their food shows. I hadthe pork belly Bao Bun and it was absolutely perfect ,one of the best I've ever had. Next, I got the box crab special. It waslike nothing I'd ever had before and hard to describe. It was a mixture between a soup and a custard with lumps of box crab init. The flavor was full of umami and it was definitely the highlight of my meal. I had their Thai iced tea and that got me goingfor the walk around solvang. I can't wait to go back to Ramen Katori! They have only one Vegan vegetarian Ramen which is very tasty. Wish for more vegan options. The rice bowl was good too. The... crispy tofu was only 6 tiny one inch pieces deep fried served with soy sauce. Found the tofu extremely oily and it seemed thatthe oil wasn?t properly drained after frying. The ramen broth was flavourful. Only giving one star less as the tofu made me sickand I vomited within 10 minutes of leaving the restaurant. If I go back it would only be for the ramen. Read more
They changed a lot of menu. You might not find the food that you want to eat from the pictures last year. 1. Shoyu Ramen is... really savory. A lot of sea weed helps to taste amazing soup. I am not a person who like Shoyu, but I changed my mind from thisShoyu Ramen at this restaurant. 2. There is con. It is really uncomfortable system that customers have to give them tips whilethey are ordering food and before seating the table. Tips are up to you guys customer service skills and customers should judgethe customer service. However, I can judge customer service because I need to pay tips while I am ordering and before seating mytable. I was scared of what will happen if I don?t pay tips before getting customer service. Overall 4.8 - Food 5; piping hot ramen at night was a treat with the outdoor seating. The food was all tasty and authentic.... Spicy Tan Tan had perfect spice and Vegetarian Ramen had unique toppings. Had some unique pickles I haven?t had elsewhere. Theyalso have daily specials on a board so look out for it. Service 4.8; Cashier taking our order was very friendly and helpful. Thefood came out extremely fast so kudos to the kitchen. The servers were attentive and refilled water without us asking. Somesmiles and checking in on the patrons would elevate the service. Ambiance 4.8; All outdoor seating with plenty of heat lamps sowe did not feel cold on a November evening. The strung lights added to the holiday feel. Because the ground was uneven thetables wobbled. An easy fix. Don?t get discouraged by a line because most of the evening diners were taking the food to go. 4people ~$90 Read more
