Cute place! Antique shop meet cafe. The cashier was friendly. There was some relaxing music playing in the background - it has... the potential to be a great place to sit and read a book/magazine. I only purchased a cup of tea and while it was tasty, $3.45for a tea bag and some hot water seems a bit excessive. Read more

Good coffee, but all of the other issues at this place overshadow that. There are mice that the owner refuses to get rid of, and... they run around where the food and pans are. Food is still served. The health inspector has come and deemed it unacceptable, butit has still remained open. The cakes and pies are stale and old. Some of the sample ones in the display were even molding. Also, for months the display case was broken. The owner is barely at the shop, and the employees are overworked and underpaid. The drinks and food are also overpriced. Read more

I understand that some Ethiopians have disdain against African-Americans, but I never thought I would experience this... discrimination first hand. The barista / cashier there forced me to sit on the back patio in over 90° heat as white guestsenjoyed the main dining room. She told me it was because they were closing soon (it was 3:20 they close at 4:00pm) However whenI came back in the main part of the café after finishing my meal and tea there were new white men sitting there and buying moregoods?.. I can understand & even allow her just being lazy and not wanting to wipe off one more table as I?ve worked in foodservice but this was blatant discrimination. Additionally it?s listed online that they close at 9pm. Customers should not bedenied service or comfort until the cafe is fully closed. And they should especially be treated the same regardless ofethnicity. All money is green. Read more

I had the smoked salmon salad, and it was delicious. My friend had the smoked salmon bagel, which came with salad and potato... chips on the side. We drank iced coffee drinks, which were nice and refreshing. This is a great local spot. Read more

Zeds is the BEST. I used to live in the neighborhood and would frequent Zeds often. Since moving further away, I still try to... visit when I can - but definitely missing being close by! I love the ambiance. It's a sweet little cafe that feels likesomeone's vintage living room. There's also an outdoor patio that is right in front of the alley with a cool mural. When diningin, they give you your drink in a vintage mug. And I love when I get the same mug. It became a thing where I would just take aphoto each time, to see what I got. The service is excellent. Always warm and friendly! And most importantly, the coffee hereis on point. I absolutely love the hot coconut lattes and coconut almond chai are my two go to drinks! They also have adelicious vegan apple pie that is just out of this world! A Silver Spring gem! Read more

I loved the decor and how it felt like someone's kitchen. It's surly a great place to have cup of coffee anytime of the day.... They also have a nice breakfast selection; the smoked salmon sandwich that I had was pretty good. The coffee was too much on themilky side for me but otherwise good stuff. Read more

Silver Spring is blessed with a plethora of independent coffee shops. Keffa's cafe(s) are justifiably famous, and Kaldi's has an... excellent kitchen and space. If you like paying more than you should, Bump n Grind is a good option. But Zed? Zed makes hiscafé special. One big living room is the motto, and he has made it live up to that,. He and his staff are always friendly andif you turn up often enough they will take the time to know you. The kitchen offers a reasonable selection at a reasonable setof prices and the pastries are second to none. I recommend the iced tea, but they have a decent selection of hot teas.Apparently, the espressos can be a bit hit and miss, but I've never been unhappy. Prices are set and I've never seen more thanone size, but you get a fair sized cup for your money. Easily comparable to Starbucks or Peets, our two local chains. WhileI've never seen it at its busiest, there are rarely more than one or two staff present. The staff bring your drink and food tothe table, which can slow things down at a lunch crowd, but the feeling of relaxation is good enough to make up for await. There is wifi and curbside parking, and hidden in back a lovely outside seating area. Currently overlooking construction, but c'est la vie. Read more
