Signal Mountain doesn't have a lot of restaurants competing. That said, as Mexican restaurants go, I've always thought El Metate... is pretty good by comparison. The servers are most always on top of it, too, and get what you need quickly, making it a greatplace to meet up. Read more
Hate to see the food quality going down, as it?s one of our only local restaurants, but my last meal was very sub par.
El Metate has fantastic service for sure. Love that they are local. But not sure where all these reviews about the "amazing... food" are coming from. We have tried this place several times, and the food is not good. It's bland and boring. I'd muchrather drive off the mountain for something like Molcajete. Even when it's the only option, we skip it. Read more

I have not been on Signal Mountain in decades. So, most everything is new to me. My first impression of El Metate is good. They... seated me immediately and a waitress was at my table almost instantly. I ordered a shredded chicken Taco salad from the lunchmenu. It was literally on my table in less than 2 minutes! (UPDATE - They have officially just lost a customer. Over the past 3 months I have logged how many times they messed our order... up, and it comes to a total of 13 times! For background I have come 15 times.) Great service, and the food comes out in aflash. The only problem is the food. Over the past 4 or 5 trips here they have managed to mess up my food one way or another.Weather its the wrong meat, sauce, or finding plastic in my food, (YES, YOU HEARD THAT RIGHT) they manage to mess it up. Maybethey should stop worrying about speedy service rather than correct quality service. Cheese dip is great though, just a bit runnyas well. (Has a water-like quality) Read more
