No perks to staying at this place, no breakfast, no pool, no beach, not even a coffee maker in the room. Street parking only if... you can find it, summer house is outdated with a minuscule bathroom, ants in room, and uneven floorboards. Main house only hasbeen updated. Stay at one of the other hotels on the island. Read more

Upon arrival no one was at the front desk. After a 15 minute wait and alerting the other staff, a lady whom had been smoking on... the deck came around and gave me a key. We went to the Summer Hostel across the street. The rooms were from 1870 or maybelonger, they are not what you?d expect unless you used to living on the streets or in abandon places. The rooms are nod toprohibition and the furnishings reflect it. The one chair and refrigerator on the floor are a nice touch. The bathroom is thesize of a closet and the blinds are broken. There are no amenities to speak of. I?m not sure what the appeal is or would be, butif you are interested in ?roughing it?, then this is the place. Parking by the way follows the ?prison rules? of get what youcan, while you can. Next visit to Shelter Island I?d rather stay in a tent or the car. Read more

We stayed at the hotel in the ?summer house? area. The room had a big and comfortable bed but it is terribly squeaky even just... moving an arm sets it off which made sleeping difficult. The air conditioning machine was very noisy in the lowest setting. Theroom was not clean, with tissue papers under the bed from previous guests. No minibar stocked. No breakfast in the hotel (for$450 a night for a rickety room i expected an included breakfast at least) one can only buy a few pastries and coffee at theircafe. We had dinner at the bar and ordered for cocktails. They didnt really know how to make a decent long island ice tea or abloody mary, this last one tasted more like a wasabi soup than anything else. Terribly expensive for what it is. I wouldnt comeback. The few good things: they were attentive to are arrival, easy no fuss 30 second check-in, their towels where good quality, the toiletries are good Maline brand and they give two complimentary bottles of water. Good to visit for looking at from theoutside, but not much else for the price its at. Read more

Have been to the Tavern in the Chequit twice and have thoroughly enjoyed the food. Seated outside, six of us could easily... converse, but seated inside, five of us had a terrible time hearing each other. While the renovations were pleasing to the eye,the acoustics were dreadful. Can't knock the food though; nice selection and delicious. Read more

Great, weekend or weekday getaway. Ben and the staff showed us a great time. Definitely try the sushi bar or have some drinks by... the firepit. Read more
