Reviews for Vic's On the River in Savannah, GA
We went to Vic's as a treat. The food and drinks were good and portions more properly sized than you get in most... restaurants. The restaurant was beautiful and the service good, but while the She Crab soup was incredible and chock full ofmeat, the Shrimp Po Boy and Crabcake Sandwich we're both lacking that magic something I expect from food at this price point. I've had sandwiches at half the price with more flavor punch. A nice stop, but probably not one we'd do again. Read more
This place is a bit on the fancy side and costs accordingly. That said it's a nice place. The service was stellar. We had... Colin. He was excellent. Perfect timing and great attitude. They had a piano fella playing when we were there, it was anexcellent atmosphere. I had the shrimp and grits and would not advise them. They were unlike any shrimp and grits I've everhad. Not in a good way. Everyone else liked their meal. Good place, just be prepared to spend a little more and don't get theshrimp and grits. Read more
Vic's was recommended to us by our tour guide and another person in our tour group. It did not disappoint, in fact it exceeded... our expectations. From the view, to the service, to the historical ambience, and let's not forget... The food!! We shared thePecan Crusted Flounder and the Crab Cakes. Both dishes were the perfect balance of southern Savannah charm and gourmet cuisine. The flounder melted in your mouth and the Crab cakes were full of lump crab meat. Absolutely worth the value, we're debatingdriving back to Savannah just to eat at Vic's again. Read more
Vic's on the river was a bit of a conundrum. Google told me that it was kind of like my beloved del Frisco double eagle in... Dallas. It was not. What it was was a rather nice but quaint restaurant with high-end food like steak and pecan fish with a livepiano player and a decent bar. But it was definitely not all that. I expected anything fish related to be ridiculously fresh andit was. I had the shrimp and grits and it was actually amazing. But the rest of the experience was just fine. Nothingexcessively good. Everyone was friendly enough, it just didn't have that feeling of a place that intended to be more than whatit was: a nice place to eat compared to the Olympic Cafe and other places close by that were clearly a step below. Great lunch to escape the heat of a warm afternoon. Fried oyster Po-boy was excellent and arrived quickly even during a busy... lunch hour. We arrived without reservations so we sat at the bar which was really nice. The collard greens side order were theabsolutely BEST ever. The fish tacos, fried were topped with a pineapple salsa. And Mike the bartender was expertly managingeverything. Highly recommend. Read more
What a fantastic experience! The ice tea was crisp and delightful. The fried green tomatoes were pretty good but the crab cake... stole the show. The she crab soup was excellent and I couldn’t get enough of it. The service was great, a really cute locationwith a wonderful bar while you wait for your table. Will return again. I give 5 star easily. Read more
I’ve been to Savannah, GA before but didn’t notice Vic’s On The River until this time around. Upscale restaurant with a... casual dining experience. The price was $$-$$$ but every bite was well worth it! Service was impeccable- our server didn’tmiss a beat! She knew the ingredients to each dish we inquired about without hesitation. Impressive!! I ordered the grilledoctopus which was served with capers, cherry tomatoes and a balsamic reduction- finger licking (and it wasn’t chicken)! Themost juiciest, most tender, and flavorful octopus I’ve eaten since My Greece trip back in 2018. The fresh catch of the day waspan seared salmon with a lemon verblanc sauce over rice pilaf and served with butter beans. SCRUMPTIOUS and priced just right at$15! Read more
My husband and I had high expectations when we made a reservation to eat at this restaurant. The venue itself is beautiful. The... hostesses were not particularly welcoming or friendly. The food was excellent. My husband and I shared a crab soup, at therecommendation of our server and we both enjoyed it. My husband ordered scallops, as his entree, and was served crab cakes. Herealized there had been a mistake but he found them so delicious, he did not complain. After a while, the server came with aplate of scallops and an apology; my husband said an apology was not needed as he was loving the crab cakes. I had shrimp andgrits, which were very tasty. The praline berry basket was exceptionally good. We were very pleased with the variety of winesthey offered by the glass. Towards the end of our meal, a man stopped by our table and said hello. He did not identify himselfso we thought he was another patron, who was walking by and was being friendly. It turned out he was a manager. We did not seehim stop by any other table and believe he wanted to indirectly know if we were going to complain about the mistake with myhusband's order. We found his approach unusual. We had no complaints. We liked the food! The service was perfunctory. We weregiven the check before we asked for it. This is not acceptable for a restaurant of this category. Read more
