Reviews for El Melvin Cocina Mexicana in Sarasota, FL
I like what they've done with the place. We've been coming here since it was a different Mexican restaurant occupying the same... space. So I was glad to see the change up of atmosphere from previously. Drinks were really good and the food was mostlyamazing. My son thought the smash burger was really good, and my wife said her chicken enchiladas were also good. I ordered acarne asada special and while the fire roasted corn and potatoes were amazing. My steak was underwhelming, so much so that Ionly had about a quarter of it. Anyhow I'm sure we'll be back and I'll update then. Read more

Pretty cool laid back place to happy a few tasty happy hour drink, which I would definitely recommend to do. The happy hour... snacks are a steal, specially the taco flight, full side, half price and delicious. Nice open space, different areas to seatdown. I sat on the bar, which was great. Music choice could be better. Read more
This is a really cool spot in the middle of Sarasota?s downtown. The server was friendly, but never came back to check on our... food and to refill drinks. The pitcher of margaritas was average and mostly ice. The chips and salsa are $4, so notcomplimentary. Loved the Mexican corn and the fajitas were tasty, but not worth $40. After the kitchen closes there is a DJ.Pretty good overall, but certainly not the best Mexican you?ll ever eat. Read more
The only good thing about this place was the presentation. The taste was very strange/sour and I love Mexican food and have been... to tons of places. It didn't help that I found a big bone in the chicken of the chimichanga. To top it off, I looked at myelectronic receipt now and found that I was double charged for my coke. This would be the last place I come back to. Read more
Good spot! We stopped by 30 minutes before close and the hostess was kind enough to still seat us. I think our server was named... Michael, and he was great. Amazing guac. We were able to find vegan options pretty easily. I got the bueno bowl, but without thequeso or crema. Without it, the dish was pretty bland, but I?d still return to try other menu items. Read more
This is my favorite Mexican spot near my hotel. We didn?t make a reservation to dine for lunch. The location was perfect. We ate... there twice and both times ate outside. This is a dog friendly place. What a unique appetizer it tasted delightful. We orderedthe queso, guacamole, and hot green Verde sauce. Our entrée was unique, not at all what you would expect. My FAVORITE dish isthe chicken open face quesadilla. It was like a top shelf taco pizza, impressive. My second favorite dish I liked was the porktaco which is the best in town. The chef?s skills were exquisite, what an honor to dine here. Our server was one of the mostsuperb. Read more
