First time diners with Surfing Deer, but we will certainly be back! The staff was wonderful, friendly and helpful. The... Clothesline Bacon was fun and delicious; what a delightful combo of flavors and unique presentation! The Tortilla CrustedGrouper was wonderful, and the Wild Salmon was absolutely perfectly prepared to my taste (medium rare). We also had a side ofRoasted Carrots with Kahlua Cream; what an unusual and delightful pairing... Thank you so much to everyone at Surfing Deer; youare perfection! Read more
My Wife and I tried the Surfing Deer for the first time on April 26, 2022 for dinner. It was delightful with good service from... our waiter, Derrick who helped guide us through the many different dinning options. We chose to sit indoors which was a wisedecision because outside patrons brought their dogs to dinner. We started with the splitting a Cesar Salad, as recommended dueto their size. My Wife had the dinner special of blackened grouper and I chose the Acadiana Seafood (picture below) for ourentrees. Both were excellent. Albeit, the portion size of the blackened grouper was more frankly too small. However, the portionsize of the Cajun seafood dish was enough for two, spicy with allot of flavor and full of seafood. With bread and wine our tabwas $194.00 including tip. We will certainly return and suggest this restaurant to our friends. Read more
Beautiful dining experience! We enjoyed the jalapeño cornbread, roasted carrots, the “hanging bacon” and pesto pappardelle... with blackened shrimp. Lovely staff complimented our dinner as well, thank you Surfing Deer! Read more
Another place my family has frequented over the years. Our first visit was quite a memory although we have painfully been less... satisfied after each subsequent meal. This time we showed up 30 minutes early for our patio reservations to enjoy a drink atthe bar before dinner. The bartender was fantastic, offering suggestions and generally being very pleasant. As our reservationtime approached and finally past we inquired with the hostess, who assured us a large party was paying and we were up next. 20minutes later (after sending our son to scout - there was only one large party seated and MANY available and set tables sittingempty on the patio), we asked again. They were still “paying” and because we were getting tired of watching walk-ins gostraight to tables, agreed to sit inside. No apologies, nothing said. Sadly it didn’t get better. Our waiter started ok; weordered our favorite Clothesline Bacon which comes out with a smoking rosemary twig. Phenomenal if not particularlyfilling. However when it came to dinner our waiter was much more involved with a larger party for most of the night. Afterordering main courses, they were delivered by a runner and our waiter didn’t check in on us until it was time for the bill. The beef short ribs were in desperate need of salt and it took sometime to flag a random floor staff person to bring some. I amgiving 2 stars largely because the bartender and her cocktails were so delightful. Sadly this was probably our last visit. Read more
First, be aware that the menu is seasonal. So some things others (or myself) have posted about may not be on the menu when you... go. Second, this place is good but it is pretty expensive for smaller portions. For two of us, with two drinks a piece, anorder of bread, a soup, an appetizer and two meals, we spent about $200. Third, there is free valet parking right behind therestaurant. Lastly, the roasted winter squash bisque with the curry and peanuts was phenomenal. Overall the meal was very goodbut overpriced. The beer selection was fair, several local beers and several others. The wine selection was good and the Pinotwe ordered was good. The tuna tostadas were very good but awkwardly portioned, three for the two of us. The bread with thehoney butter was good, but skip this if you're worried about cost. The sea scallops (#4) were very salty, almost too salty. Butthe risotto more than made up for it. It was the star of the meal, aside from the soup. The sesame coconut snapper was cookedperfectly and not salt. No complaints. Overall this restaurant is worth visiting, but be prepared to pay. The ambiance was niceas well, though we sat right next to the kitchen. There is a nice large enclosed porch as well which looked nice. Overall 5stars. Read more
This place was fantastic! We started our meal with smoked salmon dip along with the honey wheat bread loaf. Both of which were... amazing! We then both had the Seafood Acadiana which was some top notch seafood. Highly recommend this dish. Dinner wasfinished with a slice of key lime pie and banana pudding cheesecake. The banana pudding cheesecake was incredible while the keylime was just OK. 10/10 would go again!! Read more
