Reviews for Lares in Santa Monica, CA
The food was pretty good, I had the chicken mole, It was delicious. We were a party of nine. When we got there it was pretty... quiet, asked if we could be seated inside. There was a very large table available but it took some time to seat us. Service wasokay One of the waiters barked at my friend for bringing her water cup in, It was just the way he spoke to her It wasn't verynice. Could have handled it differently. We had not been here in quite a few years but we had out of town guests that wantedsome good Mexican food. I now remember the reason we have not been back to this place was because the last time we were here 3years ago service was horrible Just rude people in general. I don't think we're going to be back for quite some time. Eating outand spending all this money should be a pleasant experience and when service is not nice or rude or just not generally friendlywhen you're paying them all this money it makes for a bad experience Even if the food is good. There are plenty of places intown where the service is extraordinary! Because they go out of their way to be nice pleasant people. Read more
The restaurant itself is pretty small and the menus looked very different from most Mexican restaurants in the US, but the food... was absolutely delicious. When our order came, quickly, I might add, we were definitely surprised with the authentic look of thefood. And it tasted unlike any Mexican food I had ever eaten, it was so good. The service was also excellent. Our waiter wouldcheck in on us to see how we were doing, and took our orders and answered all our questions with the utmost care. He even gavefree refills for our non-alcoholic drinks. To wrap it up, you should definitely try this restaurant if you're in the area. Read more
This place used to be the best. Went there Friday with the family looking for the same great experience we have always had. What... a disaster. I always get the Carne Adobada and a shrimp cocktail. They managed to ruin both! My hungry teenage boys were so putoff by their fajitas they left most of it. My wife was similarly unimpressed by her tostada salad. Maybe it was just a bad nightbut wow. I guess the guacamole was good. Hopefully with time we will shake off this experience and give them another shot. Read more
Found this place randomly after a day at the Pier and I'm so glad I did. Great food at fair prices, and an awesome atmosphere.... Got to have dinner with the kids on the 2nd floor next to the window and even brought home some leftovers. Highly recommend Read more

Let me just say this: one of the best Mexican restaurants I've ever visited. Restaurant itself is mid-sized however is very... cozy and inviting. The food is very authentic, keeping the root flavours and dish presentation, respecting the way they shouldbe. Dishes are generous and will allow for two to share if that's decided. Service is very attentive, always accommodating tothe guests. There are outside and inside seating accomodations as well as parking at the back side. Will visit the place againwhenever I'm back in the area. Read more
I used to come here often, many many years ago, when I had clients in the area, when that changed, so did my visits. I had... recently gotten back around the area, for personal reasons, and have been back a few times since. Food and drinks are stillvery good, last visit service was challenging, and they were busy, but 'not that busy' however we always say 'you never reallyknow what all is going on for the staff or the restaurant' so we try to consider that as well. Overall love the place, planningon many more returns. The Chili Colorado has always been amazing and I enjoy the fajitas, I get them mixed, with as manyproteins as I can, when possible, chicken, steak, and shrimp! And of course Margaritas! Read more
