My husband and I stumbled upon Veg on the Edge tonight while downtown Santa Cruz looking for dinner. We were immediately greeted... by the owner with a warm smile. We asked what his favorite dish was and he said the pumpkin seed stew but that it takes a whileto make it (because he actually makes it from scratch after you order it!). We had time so ordered it along with some cassavafries and a bowl to hold us over. The food was SOOOO good. So much flavor, unique flavor. Came to celebrate my Birthday with my family and stopped by to take a look at this restaurant and try out the Ethiopian food.... Had the Pumpkin Stew, one of the traditional Ethiopian dish, which had a very rich, nutty flavor, very healthy and deliciousdish!! A MUST try!! Shitake Suya Bowl was also another incredible dish! We ordered from the catering menu and the food was delicious and plentiful. When they realized we were eating at Abbott Square... on the patio, the staff brought out everything for us and were so attentive. Bought food to go and the employee selected his own tip as soon as that option came on the screen after I had inserted my card.... I don?t mind tipping, but employees should not tip themselves with a customer?s card. This can become an unauthorizedtransaction. Please train your staff to do better than this. On top of that, I noticed some poor customer service when anothercustomer asked for their food to be remade. Overall not a good experience at all. Read more
