Reviews for The Fish Market - San Mateo in San Mateo, CA
Very limited options for vegetarians, arguably none for vegans, but you should anticipate that going to a place literally called... "The Fish Market." still, the atmosphere was great, the staff was friendly and attentive, and my experience was overall verypositive. i would personally go back just for the cheesy garlic bread alone, but the snickerdoodle ala mode was also an 11/10.pix included. Well worth it! The food was delicious. Even the shrimp in the cocktail appetizer had a really good flavor. You can tell it, and... the scallops were really fresh. The ciopino had a great flavor. Sitting right on the inlet coming in from the bay adds to theambiance. Amazing strawberry mint fresh lemonade, and great finishing touch with hazelnut chocolate mousse. Read more
This location on the water is such a fun treat! It?s tucked away on San Mateo and has two stories, the back patio is so cute by... the water. We went on a weekday for happy hour (which is only at the bar) and it was fairly quiet at 5pm, by 730 pm it was athird full. Apparently on the weekends there could be up to a one hour wait! Makes reservations for the patio -its a highlydesirable spot! Not many gluten free options. I ordered the Sole, cauliflower (delicious balsamic reduction) and green beans(boiled over cooked, pearl onions were delectable)! I?d come back just for the views! Read more
Wedding party came in on a Saturday afternoon and only waited for about 10-15min for a seat outdoors. Definitely, sit outside if... you can. It's gorgeous. We ordered crab/artichoke dip(lots of crab), crab cakes (even more crab) for appetizers. Food wasdelicious and rich. I ordered the prawn pasta, super garlicky and lemony. Fresh pasta, prawns seem to be on the softer side butwere still good. My mates got the salmon burger, combo fry plate and Caesar salad. I sampled everything and it was darn good.Highly recommend if you're looking for an old school sea food joint that serves fresh, well executed food. Read more
Probably one of the best spots around San Mateo for a casual meal or feeding a large group. There's lots of large tables amongst... tons of smaller tables with a great view of the waterfront. Parking is ample and you usually don't need to wait long for atable if you didn't make a reservation. The seafood itself is fresh enough and always seasoned well. The menu goes fromaffordable to fancy, but overall it's a good value. Service is fine and the manager will do their best to make sure your meal isto your satisfaction (within reason). Both times I've been here, the outside is normally better kept than inside, so get a seaton the patio if you can help it. Read more
We were happy that we found this restaurant. Great prices and they also have a kids menu. We dined outdoors, in a beautiful... setting, with a great view of the water. Our server was wonderful. Our food was delicious! In a relaxing environment. -Regina Read more
A great experience. The restaurant sits by the saltwater so I was greeted by the smell as I exited the car. I grew up with the... smell of saltwater and it is something I dearly miss living landlocked in the Midwest. The restaurant is comfortable andspacious. There are nice nooks and crannies so you feel as if you're dining in a smaller place. My granddaughter and I had fish- Canadian cod - and chips. The fish was battered lightly making the pieces firm and light. The coleslaw had an extra littletang I really liked. My daughter had the Cobb Salad. The veggies were crisp and tasty. A prefect lunch.
