Reviews for Red Tavern in San Francisco, CA
Sooo good. Russian pel meni dumplings with lamb were top notch. the beef filled potato pancakes were also awesome. We topped it... off with some dark Ukrainian beer. Friendly and fast service. Nice atmosphere as well. Highly recommend. Read more
Fairly authentic, coming from a Ukrainian girl missing her mom's/grandma's cooking. Borscht was good and super worth getting... (~$10). Golubtzi were great, but SO expensive for the 2 rolls that we got ($20). Appreciated the sides that came with the meal. The absolute most disappointing thing was the shashlyk (also ~$20) - you can see in the photo all we got was 4 dry chunks ofchicken and a side of sauce. All in all, good food but hella expensive. Almost $70 (with tip) for the portions and thatshashlyk left me feeling pretty salty, but I'd come back for the borscht at least. Read more
Delicious! Highly recommend the potato zrazy and zucchini pancakes with smoked salmon and smetana (sour cream). Love the... ambiance as well, brings me back to my Old World roots. Read more
Delicious homemade Russian cuisine, blinis, borscht, goulash, and more! Nothing on the menu is bad! Heaters in the red tent... help during restrictive dining. This is my first time back after a few years...it was great food then, it's great food now.Consistency pays off! Read more
Terribly slow and unfriendly service. My lamb chops, which should have been medium rare, were overcooked. Mashed potatoes had... lumps, really unpleasant ones. Schnitzel was served partially burnt as well and without the ever-so-needed lemon wedge. Editregarding the reply to my review: it has been over two years since I had tasted vodka, have not ordered it at this restaurant, and the lack of spirits has never informed my restaurant reviews (see my other almost 200 restaurant reviews all over theworld). But the owners attitude, so vividly illustrated in the reply below, is but a taste of the quality of service one mightexpect to encounter it this establishment. As another reviewer stated: perfect example of the USSR era service, or "sovietservice". Read more

I really enjoyed this place. The food was so good... So so good! My favorite was the stuffed cabbage rolls or Golubtsy. Although... the Olivie salad and the dumplings were also delicious. Georgian wines were also very good. They only thing I regret was notbeing able to have dessert as the kitchen have closed when we had finished eating. I really wanted to try that Napoleon cake. Itwould also be nice if they had vodka... But I think they only have a beer and wine license. I'll definitely be back though! Read more
