Reviews for Maykadeh in San Francisco, CA
I ordered Ash and beef tongue for dinner. The service was fairly good, it was pretty slow but alright. The food itself didn't... meet my expectations. The Persian Ash comes with noodles and what they served me didn't have any! The beef tongue was too sour,it didn't taste like beef tongue. Some of my friends who have tried their food before told me that the taste and quality haschanged! I don't recommend this place! Read more
This place never appears in anyone's list of places to eat in North Beach. And I really don't understand why. It's so delicious,... the service is so good consistently, and the menu so satisfying. I didn't take pictures of everything which I am actually sadabout as they deserve the attention. The menu is Persian and there's just generous portions of condiments, freshly made warmsoft flat breads that come with every meal. Served with fresh onion, basil, butter and a bowl of za'atar / baharat (?) that Idunk everything into. My go to dish is the lamb tongue. You just have to trust in this..it looks crazy yellow saffrony creamy. But it's so delicious, tender morsels of creamy meat in a thick dunkable sauce of yumminess. Heaven. The kebab dishes are priceybut plenty enough for two. If you've ever been to the middle east you would be so happy to eat here. If you haven't, it's a goodplace to learn what tender spicey meats with tangy salads and rice go happily together with spice on everything (which is what Inormally do). A decent wine and cocktail list and impeccable service just round out the experience. The people who work herehave worked here a long time. Very rare these days. Read more
The taste of their food is fantastic! The broiled brain in saffron?s sauce was something heavenly delicious, absolutely... recommended to anyone who likes lamb?s brain; also, the lamb shank was prepared with a good amount of patience; it just melts inyour mouth, and baghala polo was cooked just right not too stiff not too soft making it not only gorgeous but tasty too. Thesaffron ice cream with cream chips and pistachio, which was precisely the way traditionally made in Iran, was nicely made! Thanks to the chef or chefs, I enjoyed everything, and I highly recommend this restaurant. They may need to improve theirservice; otherwise, the ambiance is also lovely, with light Persian music in the background. Read more
Good vibe, great service and delicate Persian dishes. My entre was stewed lamb, which is yummy!! Doogh is a very interesting and... local drink. It tastes like yogurt with various herbs. Coool to try it! Nice restaurant for family meals and friends gathering. Read more
We arrived on a Monday evening around 6pm and were seated promptly without any reservation. As soon as we sat down, we were... served water, a generous offering of about 5 pieces of warm/hot bread, and a plate of basil and raw onion. Our Persian friendordered the ghrome sabzee lamb shank, koobideh kebabs, filet steak, mast-o-musir, and baba ghanoush. I had their PersianMartini, which contains pomegranate juice and bits of lime. Very refreshing! The grilled khoobideh kebabs are made withcoarsely ground beef, lamb and chopped onions. The meat reminded me of Japanese "tsukune"! :-) The meatball kebab was seasonednicely and very juicy and was served with a hot, roasted tomato, and a healthy serving of lightly seasoned fluffy rice on largeplates. My only gripe is that the breads were slightly over baked on one side, so the consistency of one half of the pita breadwas crispy and stuck together instead of being warm, spongy and chewy. It was a bit like a soda bread cracker. Overall, though,I found the food to be delicious, not overly seasoned, and the portions were sizable enough to take half of my rice and kebabback home. The ambiance is nice with some Middle Eastern background music. Service was professional, but I wish there was lessdish clatter by the bussers. There are other dishes on the menu that I didn't get to try this time that I want to try nexttime, so I'll be back. Read more
Your Persian local guide here. Listen up folks ???? Good food, bad service, high price. We tried Ghorme Sabzi with lamb shank... (the dark green stew in my photos) and Gheime Bademjoon (the orange, tomato-y stew that comes with meat chunks and eggplant). They were both delicious and fresh. Ghorme Sabzi is pretty herbal and I've seen a 0 and 1 response from my foreign friendsmeaning that you'll either love it or absolutely hate the smell and taste. But you'll most certainly like the Gheime Bademjan. The base is tomato paste and split peas. I did not try their kababs but I saw others eating it and it looked good too. Mybiggest complaint is about the price and noise. This place is pretty noisy so don't go there for a romantic meeting or you'llend up having a headach and losing your loved one lol. The prices are pretty high too! honestly what do you put in your stewsthat make them worth 25 dollars! gold or silver? comon! you could at least serve people bread and cheese for free like any otherPersian restaurant in the continent! How dare you serve fresh bread with no cheese and charge people 5-10 dollars extra forcheese? stop the greed and respect your customers. Read more
The food was absolutely phenomenal and felt extremely authentic. Had my newest favorite cocktail (though it?s going to be hard... to find places that carry pomegranate juice). Highly recommend!! Read more
I was on holiday visiting SF, and Maykadeh happened to be near where I was staying?I almost ended up there every night. Since I... have left Iran I haven?t had authentic iranian food as good as this. Top quality ingredients, I almost tried the whole menu andmy favourite is the lamb chops. Also very polite and kind staff, they will make you feel welcome and comfortable. Read more
