Both food and service were disappointing. We went for the SF restaurant week and had two $75 tasting menu. It was a bit... overpriced as the set only had one entree, with two tiny sides, bread & salad. The biggest issue was everything being toosalty, from the bread, the fish, the beef, to the dessert. I couldn't even finish the salted vanilla ice cream because therewas way too much sea salt.???? I actually liked how the dishes are designed and cooked. It's just the salty taste that ruinedeverything. The server was not attentive at all. No one cared to refill your water or bring you your next course. Even if theyfixed the taste of their food, I still wouldn't come back because of the poor service. Btw, it's located in a very dangerousneighborhood. You wouldn't want to walk on the streets. My friend and I had dined at Gibson a few times prior to the pandemic and we were generally pleased with the food, service, and... ambience. This review will address our first intra-pandemic visit to this restaurant. Although I would have given Gibson 5stars, based on the tasting menu, the wait staff, the location close to several downtown theaters, and our pre-pandemicexperiences here, I am deeply disturbed by the lack of response of Gibson's management, a fact that completely overwhelmed mypositive views of this restaurant. I waited three months before writing this review, in the hope that someone from Gibson wouldget back to me. I'm still waiting. When I made a reservation for two at Gibson during SF Restaurant Week in Autumn 2021, I hadto pay $20 per guest to hold the spot. No problem there. However, the reservation website indicated that this amount -- $40total -- would be applied as a credit to our bill. Not only was the $40 not credited that evening, but I tried to reach therestaurant's management by phone 3 times in the subsequent two weeks and succeeded only in leaving voicemails, to which I neverreceived a response. While I fully understand that restaurants have been under enormous financial pressure during the pandemic, scamming customers with a "refundable" reservation charge that is never refunded and not returning your guests' calls aboutcorrecting this scam are unacceptable behaviors unworthy of an otherwise fine downtown SF restaurant. Tasty fare and clever cocktails in a classy, mid-century inspired setting. Sit at the chef's table if it's available to watch... the kitchen in action. We enjoyed the prawn and soup starters followed by roast chicken and risotto entrees. Very friendly andattentive wait staff and prompt food and beverage service. Surprised this place wasn't full on a Friday night...perhaps itsTenderloin address keeps folks away? Music program (modern funk) was at odds with the setting, but that's a minor quibble in anotherwise very enjoyable evening. Loved the deconstructed sundae for dessert (and it was perfect for sharing). Read more

Amazing food and very friendly wait staff. It was a really really long wait between two courses and we were waiting on liver... mouse, so we weren't waiting on it to get made. Not sure if they were just short staffed or the large party was talking up thetime, but I would have expected to have a little more attentive service for that price. It wasn't busy for a SF restaurant. Read more

Tried the tasting menu and it was a great experience. I think there were 11 dishes and they were, for the most part, excellent.... Dessert was included. My favorite dish was the clam chowder. I could have had a whole bowl of the chowder. Service was veryattentative. Read more

$65 for the tasting menu....what a deal! Not a dud among the dishes. Tell your server what you definitely want to eat, and the... chef will make sure you get it as part of your tasting menu. My favorite dish was the roasted carrot with pickled carrot andpine nuts. ???? Food is fine dining but the service isn’t. Wine list with French and American wines. Beautiful restaurantwith an open kitchen....will def ask for a table with a view into the kitchen next time! Read more
