My goodness gracious. You can taste the love in this food and the owner is so kind. I had the fufu, egusi w/lamb, jollof rice,... and plantains. This meal was so divine. The spices and flavor of the egusi is like nothing I've ever had before- would highlyrecommend. Portions are very very generous. Read more
Such a fun evening! A group of us went to Eko last night for dinner and drinks and we sat on the back patio. The staff could not... have been nicer! It's an interesting spot because it's in a shared restaurant space called Merkato which offers Mexican food.So the experience feels like a speakeasy...if you don't know now you know???? We asked for the Eko menu instead of the regularand our mouths started watering. Everything sounded delicious, so I ordered the stewed spinach with chicken and rice, but myfriends gave me tastes of their plantains and porridge. To top off the night we got these gorgeous nutmeg-sprinkled doughnutholes. I can't remember what they're called, but I'm having one for breakfast today ???? My husband and I were searching for Beninese/Nigerian food and he found Eko Kitchen on a list of black woman owned businesses.... The pounded yams and Egusi soup are incredible, we have not been able to find them anywhere but West Africa. The cinnamon PuffPuffs were excellent and a sweet treat after the meal. Delicious, authentic Nigerian in San Francisco. I have only tried Nigerian cuisine one other time so I was excited to try it... again...especially in a great foodie city like San Francisco! Eko Kitchen did not disappoint. Unfortunately, we were only ableto take out due to Covid but even after the ride to our hotel, the food was hot and fresh. Started with the Akara which werefried crisp and delicious. Jollof with chicken and fried plantains was the main course and both were very tasty. Finished themeal with puff puff. The food was deliciously spicy! Many other reviewers mentioned portion sizes. I found the portions to beenormous...more than we could eat of everything. I definitely recommend this place to anyone!
