It was a cold and rainy November day, I was a father of two in his late 30s driving to pick up his kids from school. I thought... to myself a hot coffee would be great right about now. At a stoplight on Balboa Avenue I typed in coffee in my Google maps app.The typical Starbucks and Mc café saturated the map. A voice inside of me said ?F@ck Big corporate coffee, try somethingdifferent?. So I zoomed in and amongst the clutter of overpriced corporate coffee I found SHAKA! It was a cute, tiny structure.I quickly scrolled through the photos to see if they had a drive-through because like any true San Diegan I dreaded getting outof my warm car with heated seats to brave the 60° weather and rain. I was in luck they did have a drive-through. I quicklyjerked the wheel to the left crossed two lanes cutting off three drivers and pulled into the parking lot(jk). The barista cold, alone and bored greeted me with a smile. I promptly ordered a large HOT macchiato with two pumps of caramel gave her a tip andproceeded to my children?s school. The first sip was perfect and I promptly had to write a review when I arrived at the parkinglot. SHAKA thanks for putting a smile on my face on this dreary day. Seriously, though the barista said there?s only one otherlocation in San Diego and both are owned by the same person. The coffee tasted great and it made me happy to support a smalllocal business. Give them a try! I received no free coffee or compensation for this review(although I am not opposed to theidea). I am simply a father of two, in a parking lot, killing time until the bell rings ???? I typically order the acai bowls and on occasion the burritos. Everything here is yummy. My last two visits have had very long... wait times, longer than usual and today I received a bowl that did not have all the ingredients it should. So today I am givinga lower rating than usual. The girls are very nice and friendly but service is getting slower and food order is incomplete. Read more

Literally given this place 11 tries. Filled out an entire punch card then the free one just to really give it a good "try". I... only got a good tasting drink 3 of the 11 times I've gone. The coffee (espresso) is watered down and the vanilla mac one iscompletely disgusting (very sour). The drink I did like was the vanilla latte iced. I also tried their muffins. Idk how you canmess up muffins but I tried the cranberry one and it straight up tasted like Clove. Half of the staff are also very unfriendly.Super let down from my experience here. I have tried almost ever coffee shop/bar in San Diego and this one I don't recommend ???? Read more

My favorite coffee shack. Love this place! Good quality coffee and friendly staff. I wish it stayed open a little later but it... definitely dies down after 12pm. Great coconut and vanilla lattes, you can taste the shaka coffee beans. The acai bowls areawesome too, I'm obsessed with this place. They also have a punch card it's great!! Read more
