Our dine-in experience started off rather frustrating when we called early in the day on a weekday to ask if we could make a... reservation on the patio since we had a party of 6 people with 3 dogs. We were told that while they do take reservations, itshouldn't be a problem to get a seat on the patio that night and therefore we wouldn't need a reservation. All was well, or sowe thought. We arrived at 8PM to find that there were no tables big enough to accommodate our party available on the patio.Instead, we were welcome to sit at a rather uncomfortable bar-style seating area and tie our dogs up on the outside railing. Myelderly parents were not comfortable at all at the bar and neither were the dogs with this strange seating arrangement. Luckily,we spoke with another host, explained the situation and asked if there was another seating option on the patio. I watched herroll her eyes as she walked away, but she did come back shortly thereafter to tell us another table outside was just finishingup. Once we got to a better table, everything was fantastic! Our server was a sweetheart, the food was great?especially for 5vegetarians?and we ended up enjoying the experience overall. Just not so much the "reservations" experience, or lack thereof. Read more
We had brunch to honor my friends bday. We enjoyed all the offerings. I had Caesar salad, nice and crisp lettuce with delish... dressing and fresh parm. My friend had basic breakfast and he scarfed it down. My green tea was refreshing and flavorful. Beware?Stinky on way to bathroom due to proximity to dumpsters :( Highlight: Our waitress was awesome. We truthfully camped fora long time and she assured it was ok. We had a lot to catch up on and celebrate and I appreciate her understanding and supportto let us hang. Thank you Read more
This is my first review, but I thought it very important to share information about my visit to Second Nature so management sees... to it that no one has a similar experience. My wife and I visited Second Nature at 7pm on a Tuesday evening for cocktails whilewe awaited a dinner reservation at a nearby restaurant. Upon arrival, we were greeted by a hostess and informed her that we werestopping by for drinks. She recommended that we sit at the outdoor bar and directed us there. As we sat down, we were greeted bya bartender who said ?hello? rather warmly. That was the last time anyone acknowledged us. The restaurant was pretty empty(maybe 8 guests total). We sat at the bar and no less than four waitresses walked past us. When we attempted to motion or makeeye contact to ask for assistance, it was as if we were invisible. After about ten minutes, an older white man stood next to me,and was greeted immediately by a bartender/waitress who seemed to come out of nowhere. He asked her to clean the bar area wherehe was standing and she obliged before handing him an order for pick up and walking away. Soon after, he dropped a food item atwhich time two waitresses asked if he needed help and the bartender reappeared with napkins to help clean the mess. Again, I wasseated immediately next to the gentleman and during all of this not one person acknowledged our presence. After about 10-15more minutes (I can?t believe we waited so long) we decided to leave the restaurant. The waitresses watched us walk out withoutoffering a word. It was the most bizarre restaurant experience my wife and I have ever had. Mind you, we?re both people of color(she?s Indian and I am Black). While I?m usually not comfortable subscribing race or racism to matters such as these, it was notlost on us that we were the only Brown people in the restaurant. Okay so first of all I never eat at home I eat out every single day so I am such a critic of restaurants. Also, I?m super lazy... and never write reviews because?. Who knows. Maybe I have never been so impressed. This place is amazing. I?m pescatarian, thehot wangs 10/10 ? I used to work at a 5 star Italian restaurant on the east coast and I?m saying this caprese is 10/10. Basil oneach tomato slice and portion is perfect with great pesto and tomatoes are actually fully ripe. Prices are beyond reasonable.Like seriously good luck finding any place with these prices and this food quality. I came here for breakfast the other day andhad the artichoke benedict. Absolutely delicious. The eggs were poached perfectly. I?m obsessed with the atmosphere, food,service, the wine, it is all amazing. This place is a total gem through and through. One of the best places to eat in all of Pacific Beach. Everything is so fresh and so good. Great atmosphere, great service,... awesome breakfast/brunch/lunch. Close to the main drag of PB and just block to the beach. Great location, great everything! Read more
First time visiting this restaurant. So I was between a 4 and 3 stars. The food is really good. My dislikes: the portion of food... and the cleanliness of the restroom. I?m vegan so I ordered the no egg scramble. Everything on my late was really good but Ifelt like I have to order another plate to get full. The bathroom smelled bad. I?m big on restroom cleanliness so that was ahuge turn off. My likes: taste of the food and the customer service. This is hard but I may not come back. The bathroom just hasto be clean. My two friends and I met up at Second Nature for brunch today. We ordered mimosas to start and had Guava and Pineapple juice... mixer on the side. I ordered the Breakfast Salad with side of potatoes and the house made Ranch which was absolutely amazing.The portions were perfect and the flavor was phenomenal. We also ordered two plates of the Short Rib Benedict and my friendsabsolutely loved their meals. Our server (totally blanking on her name) was incredible, super accommodating and very attentive.Second Nature is definitely a new favorite spot of mine!
