Reviews for RAKIRAKI Ramen & Tsukemen in San Diego, CA
Good to find this raki raki doesn't have a super long wait! Tsukemen was excellent as was the spicy miso ramen. The service is... pretty sad though. Like they come take your order and that's it. We both wanted another drink and never saw our server again.I'm sorry I'm not tipping you for taking my order only. Read more
My bowl of ramen was tasty. I had the yakiniku ramen. It is basically Korean bbq short ribs in tonkotsu broth. Yum. The seating... area is big so it accommodated our family of 5 easily. The parking lot is large also so it was easy to get a spot. Definitelywill come back again. Read more
Had the black garlic ramen which came with a crazy good soy sauce slow-cooked egg. The charsui could have been more tender; it... was a bit tougher than expected. Karage was fantastic. Read more
Watanabe-San has done it again. With the relatively new restaurant in MiraMesa, he is managed to bring a delicious bowl of... happiness to San Diego. Sorry to see the little Italy branch close, but happy that he continues to offer great quality Ramenwith excellent service. Read more
FOOD & DRINKS I had one of their best seller ramen and I must say it didn’t excite me at all. The short ribs were nice but the... broth was kinda watery and lacked depth and flavor. The choice of ramen noodles were not ideal either because the broth was notable to stick to them and deliver flavor with each slurp. SERVICE The team was helpful, attentive and friendly. ATMOSPHERE Theplace doesn’t look bad. Very modern, spacious and nice but the bar looks a bit like a mess and without heart andtaste. RATING Many years ago I had eaten at the location in Convoy and found it worth remembering. But now honestly if itweren’t for the staff and their service I would have considered three instead of four stars. Read more
I've been to this location of Rakiraki twice, and both times I've just been a bit disappointed. The location in Convoy is... farther away from where I live, but it is absolutely worth the drive, because I've been incredibly underwhelmed by the food atthe Mira Mesa location. I ordered the black edition ramen with chashu both times I went, and both times I was unsure of whetherI even received the right bowl, because not only did the broth not have the black appearance I've come to expect from regularlyordering black edition ramen at multiple different ramen shops (including Rakiraki), but it didn't even look dark at all (it wasmore of a weird speckled orange-brown). And don't even get me started on the chashu: the "chashu" was essentially just thickchunks (yes, *chunks*) of pork that were chewy (literally the polar opposite of how chashu is supposed to be prepared) andunflavorful, which is an absolute crime because I LOVE well prepared chashu. It might be hard to see in the picture just howthick some of the pieces of chashu were, but I would honestly compare it more to the experience of eating a piece of well donesteak. I thought it may have just been a fluke the first time I ordered it here, but after the second time being the exact sameexperience, I've determined that it's just the way it's prepared here. Also, my girlfriend and I have noted both times thatwe've gone that the decor just feels really...lazy. It's basically just plain concrete walls, flooring, and some tables andchairs. I can appreciate and enjoy a minimal aesthetic, but it just feels like they ran out of budget for construction and threwsome furniture in there before calling it a day. Don't get me wrong, I will say that, for the most part, everything was ok, butI don't think I'll probably ever be coming back here if I want ramen, and certainly not if I want ramen from Rakiraki. We like Rakiraki and we tried the one in convoy before. It is definitely a very popular spot no matter here in Mira Mesa or in... Convoy. My husband loves ramen and I'm not a big ramen fan. But here's ramen make both of us happy. Because the broth is not tooheavy for me, so I don't feel very overwhelmed when I faced with a big bowl of ramen. The broth is nice! I had Shabu Shabu Ramenthis time, and the broth is right good! I really love the Wagyu beef in the soup, that's the best. The noodles are chewy andsilky. I recommend Rakiraki to Ramen lovers! The only thing I would suggest is to clean up their bar area. There are a lot ofpaper boxes there, look a little messy. It would be good if the whole restaurant looks neat and better-organized. Tried the original Tonkatsu ramen. The broth was not as good as Menya Ultra, a bit watery and somewhat lack the rich milky... flavor. The toppings and ingredients were much better than Menya, generous amount of yummy underbelly, etc.., the egg was more asoya egg type. All in all, it's not too bad. They should ease the fried garlic garnish, I find them over powering the brothflavoring. In retrospect, Menya is pretty cheap in their toppings compared to this place Read more
